This is a biology course aimed at teens who have a keen interest in the natural science and medicine. We will explore 5 different nematode parasites that infects humans. A new parasite will be presented every week. Students will learn about many aspects of the organism's biology, such as its general appearance, life-cycle, how it affects its host and the disease it causes. Many parasites are very specialized and have complicated life-cycles that illustrate the complexity of nature....

Week 1Lesson 1IntroductionIn this lecture I will give a general introduction on parasitology and parasitic roundworms. I will also briefly discuss two examples of parasitic roundworm infections.Lesson 2HookwormIn this lecture we will cover hookworms. We will go into detail about its distribution, life cycle, the disease and its impact on humans.Week 2Lesson 3River Blindness. In this lecture we will cover River Blindness. We will go into detail about its distribution, life cycle, the disease and its impact on humansWeek 3Lesson 4TrichinellaIn this lecture we will cover Trichinella. We will go into detail about its distribution, life cycle, the disease and its impact on humansWeek 4Lesson 5Giant Intestinal WormIn this lecture we will cover the Giant Intestinal Worm. We will go into detail about its distribution, life cycle, the disease and its impact on humans.Week 5Lesson 6Guinea WormIn this lecture we will cover Guinea Worm. We will go into detail about its distribution, life cycle, the disease and its impact on humans.
After taking the course Parasitology Part 1: The Nematodes learners will be able to explain in detail the biology and life history of the parasites they studied and will be familiar with the parasitic diseases they cause and how this impacts humanity.
I have a doctorate in Parasitology and I am a former researcher who specialized in parasite genetics. I have several publications in scientific journals. I have taught Parasitology and other topics in Biology at University.

There may be some pictures of symptoms that could bother sensitive students. I try not to show shocking pictures so these have not been a problem for most learners.
