Learn to love sewing with a patient, positive, hands-on teacher, while creating items you can keep or share/give to someone special. Each week, a list of supplies will be posted in the classroom for the next project. Each project uses the skills from the previous weeks, and adds a new skill to your knowledge. The...
Students will learn basic handsewing skills: threading a needle, making a knot, basic straight stitches, securing stitches, fancy stitches that show, hidden stitches, lining up corners, closed seams. Additionally, we may have time to learn a few embroidery stitches, or adding finishing touches like fringe, beads, or lace. The last three weeks are primarily for student to create a free choice project with their new sewing skills,and teacher guidance along the way.
I have been hand sewing since I was eight years old. It used to be my favorite form of sewing. I have avidly sewn many cross stitch and embroidery projects through the years. I now enjoy machine sewing, too.
two to three types of cotton fabric--old clothes you are willing to repurpose will work sewing needles $ sewing thread $ scissors $ sewing pins (with colorful balls on top) for stablizing fabrics/patterns in place $ newspapers to make simple patterns ($= can be found at Dollar Store. Other items are usually found around the house.)
Use of sewing needles and sharp scissors during these projects is required, and parental supervision may be necessary, depending on age and ability of child.
