All classes will be learner directed and will focus on improving skills that are needed to be successful in Grade 3. All skills will be grounded in complex texts. We will read popular chapter books/excerpts from chapter books, articles, short passages, and other short stories. Each lesson will begin with a one minute fluency read where students graph their own fluency progress. Students will improve the following skills which are necessary to achieve success in Grade 3: * Improve Oral Reading Fluency by completing a one minute read at each meeting * Build upon and review phonics skills learned in 2nd grade (these may include syllable types, r controlled vowels, vowel teams, and others) * Identify the Main Idea of a text * Identify the theme or central message of a text * Sequence Events * Identify Author's Purpose * Identify Point of View * Improve Grammar and Writing skills
I am a current 3rd Grade ELA teacher. I teach students with disabilities as well as struggling students. My students always show consistent growth to achieve their individual goals. I am trained in Wilson Reading, an intervention curriculum designed for learners with dyslexia, as well as The Writing Revolution.
Students will need the following materials: * Composition Notebook * Printer (Weekly printables) * Scissors * Glue * pencils, highlighters, crayons, etc...
