읽기 디코딩, 유창성 및 독해 이해(1학년)

So your child has started to sound out words and read simple sentences....now what?  This class is for beginning readers who have been exposed to and worked on reading letter patterns found below and who are looking to build upon those skills to do more reading.  Students in this class are typically sounding out words as they go, but can blend together familiar sound patterns.  (I do teach a variety of reading level classes, so please message me with any questions regarding which class may be the best fit for your learner's needs.)

*This class will begin by reviewing a phonics sound found in many words. (see list below for schedule of what sounds will be taught each class but examples would be 3 letter blends, digraphs, long vowels, and diphthongs)  Then students will practice their fluency and decoding skills to read through words that contain that phonics sound.  Next, we will look for words in a short passage or two that contain that same sound.  We will read through the passage together and then answer some reading comprehension questions about what we read. With the support of the teacher, students will be able to answer and write down their responses on their handouts if they have them during class.  (If your child needs extra support with writing, please let me know so I can make any necessary recommendations or accommodations!) 

*Handouts will be posted on the classroom page at the beginning of each week that students can print and use during class and for extra fluency practice after class is over.  (If you're unable to print, I will also be showing the handouts during class as well so students can follow along that way as well.)

*Fluency is the ability for someone to read with speed, accuracy, and proper expression. In order to understand what they read, children must be able to read fluently whether they are reading aloud or silently.  Each class, students will work on their fluency and build their confidence with similar patterns in words.   

*The passages are at about a first grade/early second grade reading level.    Students will be supported as we use our decoding skills and fluency together to ensure accuracy of the passage.     The reading comprehension questions will cover a variety of topics, such as characters, setting, vocabulary, problem, solution, plot, cause/effect, making connections, synonyms/antonyms, and more!
