Students will be given several recipes for cake, frosting, and fruit filling (fruit filling is optional). They will choose their recipes and attempt to make a fully decorated cake in 1 hour and 45 minutes (minus the time at the beginning of class for introductions, etc.). While students are working, I will provide feedback, give suggestions and help, and ask them questions about what they are doing and what they expect to happen (much like being on a real TV baking show!)
Suggested timeline: 
Choose recipes (can be done ahead of time)
Gather ingredients (can be done ahead of time)
Heat up the oven (must not be done until the host (teacher) says "Go!")
Mix cake batter and bake it. 
While the cake is baking, make the filling (optional--but will need time to cool)
Remove cake and let chill. (as soon as it is safe to handle, cut the cake into layers so that it can cool faster)
While the cake is chilling, mix the frosting.
Decorate the cake! The only limit is your imagination. 
As this is a "Cooking Show", students need to have their cameras on for this class so we can observe each other's creativity and cooking process. I can give feedback as I watch students work, and am unable to do this if their camera is off. 

Students will show off their cakes, and each student will vote for their favorite. The winner will get a certificate!
