Students will explore the human body and what doctors are doing when they get a physical exam.
As a family physician with a decade in private practice, years as a guest lecturer and adjunct faculty at a medical school, and over 1000 hours of classes completed on Outschool, I love teaching young people about how their bodies work. I believe that people who understand their bodies will take better care of them. I teach students from Outschool all the way up to medical school and am honored to be a part of their learning process, not just the information but HOW to learn and UNDERSTAND the information.
숙제 제공
Homework will never be required but I will always suggest additional exploration that students can do after class to enhance their learning.

Your learner does NOT need to own any instruments to enjoy this class, but I am aware that many students will want to have real medical instruments to enhance their learning. Buying a medical instrument for your child is similar to buying a microscope or telescope. There are a wide range of price and quality options available and it's important to do your research. There is no reason to buy a high quality item for your child because their lack of ability to use the instrument is the limiting factor. That said, a really terrible instrument will simply discourage them. Look for an item that has hundreds or thousands of good reviews.

Examples of options:
This is a student grade STETHOSCOPE that is under $20 but good enough quality to hear everything we are looking for: www.amazon.com/Classic-Dual-Head-Stethoscope-Kit/dp/B07Z84LPW6/
This is an automatic BLOOD PRESSURE CUFF for home that is under $30 that will allow your learner to check the blood pressure of family members but might not get small enough for a child's arm: www.amazon.com/Konquest-KBP-2704A-Automatic-Pressure-Monitor/dp/B077CXGSJW/
This is a student OTOSCOPE (that comes in fun colors!) that is good enough quality to be able to see through for under $30: www.amazon.com/ZetaLife-Otoscope-Infection-Detector-Pocket/dp/B07MQBQ7Y5/
This is a basic TUNING FORK (I recommend any C128 fork) for under $10: www.amazon.com/dp/B072C67K48/
This is a digital CALIPER that is intended for home improvement projects but works well for our purposes and is under $10: www.amazon.com/Digital-Caliper-Adoric-Calipers-Measuring/dp/B07DFFYCXS/
This is a PULSE OXIMETER for home that is under $20: www.amazon.com/Zacurate-Fingertip-Oximeter-Saturation-Batteries/dp/B06Y2FFQB9/

You should supervise your student from off-camera if you are unsure of their ability to use a particular piece of equipment safely. As a rule, everything we use will be safe. But theoretically someone could strangle on a stethoscope or cut themselves on calipers. So it's up to you to make sure nothing happens.

Nothing in this class will be or is intended to be medical advice. Using medical instruments is similar to using a microscope or telescope--a fun way of exploring science rather than a diagnostic instrument. This is merely educational in nature and will be a surface-level overview. Your student will not be coming out of this class knowing anything about how to diagnose or treat any conditions and we will not be discussing any personal medical questions/needs. Students should come with general questions about the topic.

All my classes make use of the wealth of information available on YouTube. In most class sessions, this is 2-3 minutes of an experiment or activity that we aren't able to do over zoom. Occasionally there will be more if that's absolutely necessary for getting the best educational experience. During class I only use the YouTube videos on screen share from my ad-free YouTube account in order to prevent students from seeing inappropriate ads or other materials. Your learner does not need to have an account. If the entire video we watched is kid-appropriate, I will post a link in the classroom after class. Watching it is entirely optional. If I selectively showed an appropriate portion of a video but the rest goes into medical details that are inappropriate for children, I will not post the link. Parents are able to message me directly for the link if desired.

Hi!

I'm Dr. Robin! I'm a family physician and I love teaching people about how their body works. I believe that when people understand their body, they will take better care of it so I created Dr. Robin's School and also teach pre-med classes...
