This will be a forum, pretty conversational in style, in which we will go through contents that are to supplement our understanding of music, break it down to its functional level, and analyze the ways in which we "speak" this language through our original compositions. Since we go down to the core of music (tonality, harmony, style, arranging techniques, notation, analysis) then the course can apply to any style, any genre, and any composer --like the students themselves! The students will learn to be better composers, better musicians/performers, better listeners, and better music theorists. The main areas of this course are Music Theory, Composition, Arranging, and Music Analysis.
A medium to write sheet music on staves. It can be written by hand or by computer notation software (Finale, MuseScore, Sibelius, Dorico, etc.). *Recommended: access to a piano/keyboard or having high proficiency on a pitched instrument, to understand and aid composition.
