Students continue to acquire vocabulary and grammar as we progress reading original Latin texts. The ultimate destination for us is reading Vergil's Aeneid, and Cicero speeches and letters, in their own Latin words. 

     I have taught Latin for thirty years (Grades 7-12) in a New York State public school. Before starting my career in the NYS public schools, I taught in American schools in Austria and Switzerland.  I have public school teaching certifications in Latin, English and Social Studies.
      As an undergraduate I gained a A.B. from Union College. Then, I earned an M.T.S. degree from Harvard University.
     During my thirty years teaching Latin at Greenville MS/HS in NYS, I developed my school's International Baccalaureate program in Latin for college credit.  Under my direction the Greenville Latin program grew from 17 students in 1990 to a total of 102 students by 2015.  For a period of ten years or so, I was also the Language Department Chairman. I have also organized three school trips to Italy for Greenville students and community members.
     What I discovered in my long teaching career is that learning Latin can be an adventure. Students like to study Latin under a motivated teacher that engages them in learning.

Students will be completing homework by themselves outside of the scheduled classes. Considerable work will be required before each lesson to meet our learning goals. I estimate 2 of homework per week.

We shall use Wheelock's Latin as our refence book. Each student will need to buy a copy of Wheelock's Latin as our reference/ text book.  I suggest a new or used copy to be purchased through abebooks.com. In addition, each student should buy a basic Latin dictionary.
