Learn to capture great photographs using an iPhone or iPad camera!

The key to being a great photographer is knowing how to frame the best photograph using the tools you have. Any iPhone or iPad released in the last four years has a camera capable of capturing excellent photographs. Whether you want to post photos online, print them on cards for family, or frame them for the wall, you have all the tools you need right in your pocket. 

I will begin by demonstrating how to use the iOS camera grid to help you place the most important part of the photograph in the the most engaging part of the frame. This will lead naturally to a discussion of leading-lines in photography, which help to direct the viewer's eyes to the most important subject. Once we have covered these fundamentals, we will practice adjusting the camera focus point to create dramatic depth of field (blurry and focused parts of the frame). Finally, we will combine point lighting, natural lighting, and angles to capture interesting photographs. 

We will also talk about how to adjust the camera settings, as well as the benefits and drawbacks of each setting (such as HDR, camera grid, and flash). 

Throughout class, I will ask students to share the photos which they take by holding their photograph up to the Zoom camera. I'll capture the picture and use annotations in Zoom to help students understand what is good about their photos and how they could make small changes to improve it. Working together, we will learn to take better photographs.
