We will be exploring the Sunshine State, from the time of pirates and Native Americans to Walt Disney and tourism in Florida! We will explore the everglades and other features that make Florida unique. I will provide worksheets/activities for each section. Using slides and storytelling we will discuss the Sunshine State! Each week will be broken down as follows: 
Week 1: Florida Overview 
Week 2: Pirates 
Week 3: Seminoles & American Indians 
Week 4: Exploration & Legacy/Colonization to Statehood
Week 5: Civil War and Reconstruction 
Week 6: Pioneers & Technological Advances 
Week 7: Geography, Culture and Climate 
Week 8: Government & Economy

 Many groups wanted to call Florida theirs - from the Native seminoles to Spain and England. Explores came to Florida looking for riches and adventure.

There are no required materials. The texts I used while teaching my daughter and expanding the lessons for this class were the “Social Studies Readers” which can be found on Amazon - but are NOT required. I also used Florida Social Studies by McGraw Hill Education when designing the lessons for my daughter. 

I will provide a worksheet/activity for each section that will be posted prior.

I have a degree in history from Columbia College and a Juris Doctorate from Ave Maria School of Law. I am a homeschooling mom and I love sharing my passion for these topics. Many of my class topics are based off lessons I designed for my child. I want students to realize these subjects are not just in the past, and boring book learning type subjects but are living topics that are interesting and exciting.
