This is a classic story that transcends time. 

"Guy Montag is a fireman. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television "family." But when he meets an eccentric young neighbor, Clarisse, who introduces him to a past where people didn't live in fear and to a present where one sees the world through the ideas in books instead of the mindless chatter of television, Montag begins to question everything he has ever known."

This is a Socratic-style class. Discussions surrounding the themes, characters, and symbolism will be key to understanding the importance and relevancy of this particular book. We will also be discussing the literacy devices used by the author to create the tone, mood, theme, and symbolism. 

I will be asking open-ended questions that will encourage the learners to discuss different aspects of the plot, characters, symbols, and theme. Learner participation in the discussions is key to a successful class. I believe every voice is important and should be heard. If your child does not want to participate in the discussions, I do allow answers and questions to be typed in the chat box. 

This is a story that is relevant today. Students will be encouraged to dig deep during our in-depth conversations about the story. 



** All classes will begin on time as long as there is at least one learner in the classroom. If there are no students in the class 10 minutes after the class start time, the teacher will exit the classroom. This class cannot be taught with zero students. No recording will be available for classes with zero attendance.
