What Will Be Taught? In our Orton-Gillingham tutoring sessions, students will master essential reading skills, focusing on phonics, decoding, spelling, and fluency. We’ll work on understanding the building blocks of language, from individual letters and sounds to complex words and sentences, tailored to each student’s specific needs. What Topics Will You Cover? We’ll cover a range of topics essential for strong reading and writing skills, including: Phonemic awareness (recognizing and manipulating sounds in words) Phonemic awareness is an important foundational skill for reading and writing, as it helps children understand the relationship between sounds and letters, ultimately aiding in their ability to decode and spell words. It is distinct from phonological awareness, which encompasses a broader range of sound-related skills, including awareness of larger sound units like syllables and rhymes. We would like to inform you that all our sessions will focus on general teaching strategies and content. Please note that this class is not specifically designed to target phonemic awareness skills. Phonemic awareness is a critical component of early literacy development; however, while we incorporate various literacy activities in our curriculum, this particular session will cover broader concepts and themes. Phonics (connecting sounds to letters) Word decoding and encoding (reading and spelling words) Vocabulary development Reading comprehension strategies Writing skills, including sentence structure and grammar How Are Tutoring Sessions Structured? Our classes are structured to be engaging and interactive, with a balance of direct instruction and hands-on practice. Each session begins with a review of previously learned material, followed by the introduction of new concepts. We then practice these concepts through multisensory activities, such as tapping out sounds or using letter tiles, to reinforce learning. What is our instruction method? We teach using the Orton-Gillingham approach, which is systematic, sequential, and multisensory. Lessons are customized to fit each student’s pace, ensuring they build confidence and competence at every step. We use a variety of teaching tools like visual aids and hands-on activities to make learning fun and memorable. What's Our Teaching Style? Our teaching style is supportive, patient, and encouraging. We believe in celebrating every victory, no matter how small, to build a positive learning experience. We focus on creating a safe environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them. How Much Will Your Learner Get to Interact with Us? Interaction is a key part of our tutoring sessions. Students will engage with us through: Direct instruction: We explain concepts clearly and answer any questions students have. Slides and Observation of Instructor: We use visual aids and model correct mouth formation and verbalizing of letter sounds in addition to explain complex ideas in a simple, understandable way. Discussions: We’ll have regular discussions to review progress, clarify doubts, and explore new ideas. This blend of teaching methods ensures that each session is dynamic, personalized, and effective.
