In this lesson, the students will learn about the Ruy Lopez Chess Opening, named after the Spanish Chess player, Ruy Lopez de Segura. The students will learn that Lopez published his own chess book in 1561 and that he mentioned some of the same standard rules that are still in use today. We will be using the lichess.org website for students to play chess games on-line. The students will be copying the game link and pasting it in the Zoom Chat Box for other students to click on and access the game. Usernames and passwords to lichess.org will not be used for this class.
ChessKid.com is an additional resource that can help the students to improve their chess skills. This website provides Chess Puzzles, practice against chess bots, and informative videos which are made by Grand Masters.
