수업 소개
In this 4-week course girls will gain the power to build their self-esteem and discover more about themselves to become the very best version of themselves! In this class we work as a group every week in our workbook while discussing topics that affect girls today. In our current time there is so much pressure of young girls to be perfect, to look and act in a certain way. In this class we will address those issues so each girl will gain that power to grow up to be independent and strong women! (note : this class benefits any/all students who identify as female) Every week includes check-ins, goal setting and engaging in fun group activities. Every student needs their workbook and pen/or pencil to bring to class every week along with any supplies needed for our projects. If your child has taken my other course " Building Confidence and Self-Esteem for Preteen Girls"; this class is a continuation of the 4-week course. Here we continue to build on the skills we learned in that 4-week course, the skills we build on are: Self-Esteem, creating a Positive Self- Image, Role Models, Peer Pressure, Building Confidence within ourselves and Self Reflection. If you have not taken this course, that is ok, you can take still take this course. Please note you do not have to take the other class prior to this one, both technically build off one another. The workbook and supply list are available for download once you sign up and pay for the class. Week 1: In week one- students will start working in their workbooks in class. We will start with introductions so each girl can get to know a little more about each other. We will define self-esteem, learn how to write positive affirmations and how they can help us, we will learn about our own strengths and where our self-esteem comes from. Week 2: In week two - it is all about creating a positive self-image. Students will be reminded in week 1 to search with guidance from their parents to find one positive and one negative image of girls in the media today. We will have a discussion on the images (this includes the ones in the workbook) about why they are positive and negative (no graphic images are allowed, parents please assist in finding images that are suitable for class, any questions on the images please send me a message and I will let you know if they are suitable). The students will be able to define what beauty is to them and we will have a discussion on positive and negative self-concept. There are two short videos we watch in class, below are the links for parents to view before class. We also reflect on positive things we can name about ourselves by making list and discussing how the list makes us feel when we discover all the positive things about ourselves. Week 3: In week three- we will discuss role models: What is a positive role model? Who is our role model and why? Please see supply list as students are expected to bring a picture of their role model to glue in their workbook. We will discuss the 5 qualities of positive role models and make a list of positive role models from our family, friends, teachers, a famous person i.e..: Emma Watson and anyone else the students know of. Students will discover how they can be a positive role model by looking inward at all the great qualities they have. Week 4: In week four we discuss peer pressure, being confident in ourselves and learn about self-reflection. Students will define what peer pressure is and discuss if they have been faced with peer pressure and talk about who they can go to for help with peer pressure ie. parents/teachers/friends/other family members. (Please note I do not bring up any specific topics on peer pressure, there will be no discussions regarding substances/self-harm - if any students bring up any sensitive topics, I will immediately mute them, then send them a private chat message in class that they need to discuss those with their parent/guardian and I will send a message to the parents via Outschool to let them know*please see disclosure below). I will encourage them to speak on another topic such as the below list. Topics students can bring up on peer pressure are the following: 1) pressure to cheat on schoolwork 2) pressure to be mean to others 3) pressure to take things that don't belong to them 4) pressure to be someone they are not ie. take on a different personality! 5) pressure to lie to parents/guardians * I cannot stress this enough we will not talk about substances nor any abuse - I am a mandated reporter and if students disclose anything that is related to self-harm or harm to themselves by others it will be reported to Outschool* Students will also learn in class ways to say "NO" to peer pressure such as using the statements such as: No, thank you. Get out of here. I'll pass. That's really dumb. Students will also practice making up their own NO statements. In week 4 we also focus on having confidence in ourselves, what that looks like and discovering what all we are capable of. Students will be able to make a list in class of 5 things they love about themselves and discuss why. Towards the end of week 4 we discuss why self- reflection is important, and how we need to take time to reflect on ourselves to help us grow and reach our goals in life. In the workbook at the end of each week's section there are two journal pages for the students to utilize. Students are encouraged to journal their thoughts about what they have learned about themselves, what they learned in class and work out obstacles they may be facing. Their journals are a great time for self-reflection, a time to express how they feel. Within each week we do a check in to see where we are on the self-esteem/confidence scale and set goals for the next week. I encourage if you have any questions, please ask. My goal is to work with your child(ren) to assist them in discovering how amazing they already are. 교사 전문성 및 자격증
I hold a Masters in Social Work (MSW), I have worked as a Social Worker in a girl's residential unit for over 4 years, my goal as their counselor was focused on assisting them in achieving their personal goals, learning life skills and building their self- confidence. I also have a daughter (she is an adult now), so I have personal experience raising a girl and as a girl myself I know how it feels to have the pressure to be perfect and struggle to try to fit in.
