I run 4 levels of ongoing classes. The first is a brief 3-day mini-camp introduction. Then the other levels are ongoing classes (2 a week for 4-6 weeks with levels 2-3 covering what's needed for Algebra 1 standards, and Level 4 reserved for advanced topics. These levels are "gateways" that allow you to put your learner in exactly the level he/she is ready for. Your learner progresses through "gates" until by the end of the level 3 (about 6 classes at each level- level 4 is an elective level) your student is linear equation warrior - they can plot quickly, read linear graphs quickly, manipulate and interpret linear equations quickly, solve and plot linear inequalities, solve systems of equations, and handle linear equations word problems. A quick guideline on where to place your student among the levels... Level 1- "My learner is just getting started with linear equations, or wants to go back and review all the basics". If that's you- have your student do my 3-day level mini-camp. They will get strong in all the terminology and foundational concepts on how to plot a line and relate the graph to the linear equation... The class is titled: "Camp Boom! 1 | Linear Equation Basics | Slopes, Intercepts, Variables, Constants | Summer Camp" and can be found at this URL: https://outschool.com/classes/camp-boom-1-or-linear-equation-basics-or-slopes-intercepts-variables-constants-or-summer-camp-fbmR7QiD#usjMLMcnyB. If you find that the 3-day summer camps are not meeting your learner's schedule, consider setting up a one-time drop in tutoring session to make sure your learner has the skill sets and foundational concepts to enable him/her to enter into level 2. Here is the link to my private tutoring sessions: https://outschool.com/classes/boom-nailed-it-algebra-or-pre-algebra-i-do-we-do-you-do-drop-in-tutoring-11-ZDEnxrxI#usjMLMcnyB. Level 2 - "My learner pretty much knows the vocabulary and how to plot a line. He/she isn't confident, however, and takes a long time to draw a line on a graph using the equation, and isn't really understanding how to rearrange a linear equation to find the slope and intercept quickly." Sounds like your learner is ready for level 2 where he/she will have fun building proficiency with linear plots. They will also be introduced to linear inequalities and systems of linear equations. Sign them up for this ongoing class titled "Boom! I Nailed It! Level 2 Linear Algebra | Confidence in Plotting Lines | (Ongoing Weekly Camp)" at this URL: https://outschool.com/classes/boom-i-nailed-it-level-2-linear-algebra-or-confidence-in-plotting-lines-or-PY3Efncu#usjMLMcnyB Level 3 - "My learner can plot linear equations quickly and is pretty confident on rearranging linear equations into its many different forms to figure out slope, intercepts, and points. But he/she struggles with linear inequalities and he/she hasn't really mastered the art of managing systems of linear equations and linear inequalities." Your student needs level 3. Enroll them in the course titled "Boom! I Nailed It! Level 3 | Linear Algebra | Inequalities and Systems of Linear Equations": https://outschool.com/classes/boom-i-nailed-it-level-3-or-linear-algebra-or-inequalities-and-systems-of-linear-equations-yBzMxc3Q#usjMLMcnyB Level 4 - "My learner has this linear equations and inequalities thing mastered. He/she knows all the terminology, can plot lines and linear inequalities with ease, and understand systems of linear equations like the back of their hands. But he/she might not be ready for the kind of challenging linear equation word problems that might come at them in high school math or the ACT or SAT. They need to build that confidence." Level 4 is offered on occasional basis when learner demand calls for it. Levels 1-3 provide enough support to meet the needs for most Algebra 1 curricula. If you are looking for this class for your learner, request for me to schedule one here at the class titled: "Boom! I Nailed It! Level 4 | Linear Algebra | Word Problems (Ongoing Camp)" at the following URL: https://outschool.com/classes/boom-i-nailed-it-level-4-or-linear-algebra-or-word-problems-ykFgbz2k#usjMLMcnyB Be aware that when your learner feels they have mastered that level, it's time to enroll them into the next level. Please message me if you are looking for me to help them determine when they are ready to step forward. Also know that it's fine to straddle two levels during the transition part to make sure the learner is comfortable stepping up. Your learner is going to love this! The work sessions with other students have the goal really understanding and and mastering linear algebra through weekly practice of the concepts, exercises, and techniques. Before I show you how your learner can be proficient with linear algebra in just 2 months, let me begin by sharing how other parents have seen their learners grow under my teaching: Here are some reviews from classes here on Outschool to show what I mean... From CT - Love this teacher! My kids are requesting more of her classes. Thank you teacher Kitty! Energetic and patient teacher. I accidentally signed up my younger son with his older brother and she made the class interesting for both of them and they asked to join another class of teacher Kitty. Thank you ! From William- Wonderful class. The class speed was just right, and our daughter was able to follow along relatively well. She benefited greatly from this opportunity to reinforce her understanding the solving quadratic equations. Thanks!!! From Dillon- This the second linear equation class my son took from Teacher Kitty. My son felt he learned a lot on this subject and took very useful notes, and gained a lot more confidence than when he just started learning it. From Mary - I am really pleased that our first lesson at Outschool was such a fantastic one. Kitty is really good and my son loved that he could understand her clearly (initially worried as he is not American or in America ) I observed that she really took her time to explain terminologies and she gave the class more time to really grasp the lesson. My shy son eventually came out of his shell and contributed to the class. We are looking forward to more classes with her. Your learner is going to love this! Learners in this class will focus on the following topics: Word Problems - Interpreting Linear Equations Word Problems - Modeling Situations with Linear Equations Word Problems - Linear Regressions Word Problems with Systems of Linear Equations Word Problems with Systems of Linear Inequalities Whodunnit with Lear Word Problems Each week we follow the same routine so that learners can jump in at any time in the cycle: - First 5 minutes - Warm up and Pre-lesson assessment - Leaners will watch the teacher review the concept as they participate by responding on chats. This gives the teacher a way to find out how the students are understanding the material before asking them to do it on their own. -2nd 10 minutes - Several problems relating to a chosen topic from the list above (these are rotated) are worked out by the teacher - Next 20 minutes - Boom! We're off and running. Line after line after line...If it's a graph, we study it, manipulate it, determine key parts of the graph, and write an equation to that graph. And along the way, we will learn many tricks to increase your learner's knowledge. Often we will apply it to real-life analysis. Students rotate working through the questions interactively - the teacher does the writing and is very generous with guidance and helping students feel okay if they don't understand it yet. Last 5 minutes - Recap We always end by recognizing what we learned. Students walk away with a list of concrete deliverables they gained - vocabulary words, concepts, approaches, and pitfalls to avoid. We always do a check with the learners to see if the session was a net gain to them. Sessions are highly interactive, as I take time to ensure mastery and understanding along the way. Every problem that learners get stuck on is met with optimism and encouragement. These are opportunities for everyone to learn. I want to share with you my experience in teaching math and SAT Prep. I've been teaching math for sixteen years and I've been a personal SAT tutor for seven years. My students have typically raised their scores between 100 and 300 points as a result of my tutoring. My secret to getting these results is making sure that the students truly understand the underlying concepts when practicing their problems. I want to do the same for your student. Thanks for having your learner study with me. I can't wait to see him/her in class! At the end of this course, your student will be able to say, "I have a strong foundation on linear algebra. . I can identify many types of linear equations and graphs and I can more easily recollect the methodology to interpret and use them.” I've been certified in the public schools for teaching math in middle and high schools. I received additional certified training for gifted and talented learners. I taught math for sixteen years and I've been a personal SAT tutor for seven years. My students have typically raised their scores between 100 and 300 points. As a chemical engineer and project management professional in the world of business consulting and information technology consulting, I've completed over five levels of college calculus and applied mathematics and used these math and computing skills throughout my career. The students I have taught had varying learning abilities that ranged from one with pronounced learning disabilities to gifted and talented. When it came to PSAT's and SAT's, each of them with impressive improvements in their scores. It can be done! I used a focused approach. We honed in on trouble areas, really understood the underlying math concept, and drilled for mastery.
학습 목표

This course is not for the student just being introduce to linear equations and linear graphs.
Parents should make sure their learners are ready to dig deep into linear Algebra word problems. The course assumes they have strong foundational skills in plotting graphs using slope, intercept, variables, coefficients, ordered pairs, point-slope formula, standard formula, slope intercept form, perpendicular slope, and all other basic constructs of a linear plot. In addition, the student should have a strong grasp of basic pre-algebra skiils including:
1) Real Numbers, Variables & Expressions
2) Order of Operations
3) Properties of Numbers
4) Distributive Properties
5) Adding & subtracting polynomials
So if your student is at an Algebra 1 level and already has a handle on those skills that teachers reinforce at the start of the year, but wants to dig deep and MASTER linear algebra, this is the course for them.
수업 자료
As the teacher, I will supply the information needed for class. I will be using Kahn Academy's resources on Algebra and point the learners to specific videos and practice problems on that page. As a teacher who has done this many times before, I can tell you that using a web resource in place of a textbook far-better prepares a student for his/her future academic and professional career. In college and the real world, nowadays, information is readily available if someone knows how to access it. All of the same information that is in textbooks are now available on credible free websites. Students should also have a pencil, and graph paper. Calculator is needed for this class.
