In this course, students will learn ways to take effective and efficient notes. They will learn different note-taking styles and guidelines. They will also learn how to identify important ideas to write down.

First, students will discuss their note-taking struggles, so I can get an idea how to best help them.

Then, students will learn certain note-taking guidelines to help them take notes faster, so they can still pay attention to the teacher and not fall behind. These guidelines include writing down only key words and phrases, shortening words, using symbols instead of words, and writing "telegraphically".

They will also learn how to look for "guide word" and "signposts" to help them identify important details to write down.

Following these guidelines, students will learn about five different note-taking styles and how to use each for taking notes in class and out of class. These include the Question-and-Answer System, the Cornell system, the Comparison Chart (two-column notes), the Informal Outline, and the Cluster Map.

Finally, students will get an opportunity to practice these note-taking styles, so they can implement them on their own.
