Research shows that learning a second language boosts problem-solving, critical-thinking, and listening skills, in addition to improving memory, concentration, and the ability to multitask. Children proficient in other languages also show signs of enhanced creativity and mental flexibility. Though many take language classes as teenagers, studies show that the human brain is most primed for language learning before the age of seven. There is a steep drop off in ability to retain language later in life. Children who learn another language at a young age use the same part of the brain to acquire that second language that they use to learn their native language.

Basic Spanish - About Me is a Self Paced is a  basic Spanish class for young learners with NO LIVE CLASSES. In this class students will watch a fun and engaging class video provided on the Outschool class page and learn words and phrases to describe themselves. Students will also learn the Spanish alphabet and days of the week. Students will be having so much fun they won't even realize they are learning. This basic Spanish class is where fun and learning go hand and hand.

Lesson 1: I am phrases, abcd, Sunday
Lesson 2: I have phrases, efgh, Monday
Lesson 3: I like phrases, ijkl, Tuesday
Lesson 4: I see phrases, mnño, Wednesday
Lesson 5: I go phrases, pqrs, Thursday
Lesson 6: I travel phrases, tuvw, Friday
Lesson 7: I want phrases, xyz, Saturday

Each lesson on top of the class video there will be 2-3 short (10 second) videos of me saying the basic phrases for the week, the letters  of the week and the day of the week. Each student will be asked to record and post videos to the class page of themselves duplicating these short videos showing their ability to say the words and phrases. In this way students can interact with each other and learn together through their videos clips. I will respond to each students videos with encouragement and when needed correction. (You are welcome to cheer on your classmates as well).

Contrary to popular belief, young children are not confused by the introduction of multiple languages at the same time. Not only do they naturally navigate multilingual environments, but acquiring a second language early in life primes the brain to learn multiple other languages, opening a world of opportunities for later on. Children who are exposed early to other languages display more positive attitudes to the cultures associated with those languages. The experience of learning a language introduces them to the world in ways they might otherwise not have experienced.
