ASL Interpreting Class Overview

Class Description:
Join our ASL Interpreting Class, designed for students looking to enhance their sign language skills in a fun and supportive environment. This class is intended to provide information and practice to improve and strengthen your ASL interpreting abilities. Please note that this class is for practice purposes only and not intended to certify you as a professional interpreter.


### **January 2025** ❄️

- **Week of Jan 6:** *Community Events*  
  - Signs for public spaces (parks, libraries, etc.).  
  - Activity: Role-play interpreting a local event announcement.

- **Week of Jan 13:** *Fingerspelling Proficiency*  
  - Practice names, brands, and technical terms.  
  - Activity: Speed fingerspelling challenge.

- **Week of Jan 20:** *Interpreting for Children*  
  - Learn playful language and child-friendly signs.  
  - Activity: Interpret a children’s storybook.

- **Week of Jan 27:** *ASL Grammar and Structure*  
  - Compare ASL syntax vs. English grammar.  
  - Activity: Rephrase English sentences into ASL.

The ASL Kids Club is proud to offer an exceptional learning experience guided by a team of highly skilled and certified teachers. Our instructors include nationally certified interpreters, seasoned Deaf educators, Deaf and HH experienced tutors, ensuring that every student receives the highest quality education.

Several of our teachers are Deaf, bringing invaluable perspectives and authentic experiences to our program. This diversity enhances our teaching approach, providing students with a deeper understanding and appreciation of American Sign Language and Deaf culture.

Ms.Trina is the founder of ASL Kids Club and has over 20 years of experience teaching and working in school districts with both Deaf and hearing children. This extensive background has allowed her to hand-select each teacher to ensure that students receive top-tier instruction.

Our educators boast impressive credentials and experiences:
- One teacher has spent over two decades as an Educational Interpreter and Tutor, working closely with deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Their passion for sign language is driven by personal experiences with Deaf family members.
- Another teacher is proficient in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, American Sign Language, and Nicaraguan Sign Language. With over 10 years of teaching experience, they have served in various roles such as teaching, assisting, and mentoring students and interpreters.
- We also have a Deaf educator with expertise in speech, lipreading, and sign language. Their patience and kindness have positively impacted many students through their work as a tutor and assistant teacher at the School for the Deaf.
Together, our team is committed to providing an enriching ASL learning experience that accommodates diverse backgrounds and fosters growth.
