Week 1Lesson 1How do instruments work? The string familyLearn how instruments make sound in this lesson. We will also learn how we classify instruments into groups called "families." We will learn about five instruments in the string family, the violin, viola, cello, and double bass.Week 2Lesson 2The brass and woodwind familiesLearn how brass instruments and woodwind instruments use air to make sound. We will learn about the trumpet, trombone, tuba, french horn, clarinet, flute, bassoon, oboe, and saxophone.Week 3Lesson 3The percussion and keyboard familiesLearn how the percussion and keyboard families make sound. We will learn about pitched and unpitched percussion instruments and keyboard instruments like the piano, organ, and harpsichord.Week 4Lesson 4Let's visit the symphony!In this lesson we will explore all the instruments in the symphony orchestra by studying "A Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" by Benjamin Britten. A listening guide will be provided to help you hear for the different instrument families. The guide uses questions, drawing, and movement to engage the learner.
