It can be scary to find out your child is behind in reading, especially if you don't know how to help. If it's already hard for them, will tutoring be stressful? I've tutored dozens of children in phonics and reading, and I can assure you, cracking that secret code can be fun! 

Our first session will consist of an informal assessment and short chat or perhaps a game of Would You Rather to help us get to know each other. After that, the fun begins! I use a wonderful program called Reading Simplified to teach reading to kids who fall anywhere between learning letter sounds and learning to decode multi-syllable words. This isn't a curriculum, it's a method. Each lesson is customized for your child.

I'm a patient tutor with the highest regard for children and the hard work they do every school day, learning things we now take for granted. I've seen how exciting it is for them when the light bulb goes off and they understand how to decode a certain type of word!

It comes from a combination of their hard work and a tutor who recognizes exactly where they are having trouble and fine tuning the lesson to help them master that one specific bit of decoding - and then repeating that process whenever they reach a roadblock.
