Are you interested in helping your learner boost their vocabulary and strengthen reading skills at the same time? Come explore this weekly ongoing class to improve your learner's vocabulary, using Wordly Wise Book 2. Each week we will meet to learn new words as outlined in the book. There are 10 words per lesson and we will focus on gaining the meaning of those words through context clues, affixes, parts of speech, etc. I love to engage learners with a variety of activities and games to...
Learners will learn strategies to help determine a word's meaning. Learners will develop their vocabulary knowledge through a variety of writing tasks and games. Learners will use social and oral skills to communicate and interact with other learners.
With almost 20 years of teaching experience, I have worked to make learning a positive experience for all. I am a licensed teacher with a Master's in Reading. Additionally, I am Nationally Board Certified and I served as a Fulbright Teacher in England. I am excited to work with your learner to discover the power of words! Having taught in the classroom as well as the library, I want my students to develop an appreciation for words because words matter!
The learner will need a pencil and paper (or notebook). *It is recommended, but not required, to have a copy of Wordly Wise Book 2. The teacher will provide any handouts for our class at least 24 hours prior to each weekly meeting.
As a parent and teacher, I always recommend families preview materials used in class to deem whether it is appropriate for your child.
We will use the words as outlined in Wordly Wise, Book 2.
