Students will improve their critical thinking skills and reading comprehension.

I first read The Handmaid's Tale the year it was published, 1985, as a Freshman in College. As a lifelong feminist, from a long line of feminists, the book spoke to me. I marched for the passing of the Equal Rights Amendment as a child with my family in the 70's. I continued to participate in feminist issues in High School, throughout college, to now. The Handmaid's Tale is as relevant, if not more so, today than when it was first published. I homeschooled my children through High School. This book was part of their core curriculum. When teaching book clubs and novel studies to High School Homeschool groups The Handmaid's Tale is always included. It is a warning for how easy it is to take away rights from a group of people without so much as a minor protest. It is something everyone should study. My life experience and years of teaching this subject matter to homeschool groups give me a unique perspective to how this book can make an impact on high school students.

Students will be responsible for completing course work for the week on their schedule. An Estimated 2-4 hours per week.  Reading should be completed prior to answering the guided discussion questions.
