I have created this section for teens who want the flexibility of working on specific skills within the PEERS® curriculum. Mrs. Solano is a credentialed Special Education teacher and a Board Certified Behavior analyst who is also a certified PEERS® social skills teacher.
This class is can help all students but is specifically designed to assist students with autism. Social skills may not come easily to them and this class provides the skills and knowledge for them to build confidence in this area.
This class does cover topics that can be emotional triggers for some students such as bullying. Students will not need to discuss how they practiced the skill during that week or give any previous examples of bullying. The teacher will be giving some tips on proper responses to bullying in social situations. This class will not be therapeutic in nature and only presents social skill concepts and encourages students to practice them in everyday situations.
All example videos are from the curriculum developed by UCLA PEERS® curriculum and are age/grade appropriate for teens. The videos give very clear but simple examples of what not to do and what to do in various social situations.
