Does your learner love science and is looking for a fun, engaging class that teaches science concepts outside of their typical grade level science standards? This class is for them! Once a week we will be engaged on hands-on activities to explore concepts that your child is interested in. I am open to asking learners what they would like me to research and prepare for them. The best way to have them engaged is learning about topics THEY want to learn! I will plan lessons as well as take requests. Your learner will need to be fairly independent for this class, however I welcome adult help as long as it’s off screen. Please count on purchasing items for these hands-on activities. We will be drawing, building, exploring and so much more! This class will begin in September for the 2023-2024 school year. I will be working on the schedule of topics between now and the summer. **For learners that are signed up, feel free to have them post suggestions for lesson to the classroom. I have a master’s degree though the department of education and have been teaching and working with students for the past 20+ years. I am a licensed K-12 special education teacher and was also the academic achievement specialist at my previous in-person school to make sure that all regular education K-8 students were making adequate progress in their academic studies each year. Prior to that I was a therapist for kids ages 5-17 who struggled with behaviors at home and at school.
Throughout my experiences as an art therapist and then as a special education teacher, I have seen that children learn best when engaged in hands-on acitivities. They tend to retain information much more effectively when enaged in active learning. Besides learning the class standards, one of the other focuses for students in this class will be on actively participating.
