Try this class for just $5 with with coupon code BRIDGTRYSCI5 In this course, we will explore animals, weather, climate, and cool experiments! Get ready for fun activities that make science super exciting as you learn about the world around you and build awesome 4th grade science skills! Students will explore life, physical, earth and space sciences, as well as engineering concepts, aligned with NGSS standards. This interactive and hands-on course fosters curiosity and builds a strong foundation in fourth grade science and fourth grade STEM skills. The class is structured with a balance of interactive activities, hands-on experiments, and engaging lessons. My teaching style is dynamic and interactive, ensuring that young learners stay engaged and excited about science. I use a mix of games, colorful slides, short video clips, and discussions to make each lesson fun and easy to understand. Students will actively participate in discussions, share their ideas, and ask questions during the lessons. They'll also get plenty of opportunities to interact with me during our live sessions, where we'll work together on science activities and experiments designed to spark their curiosity and deepen their understanding of the topics covered. This course is designed to be interactive, with students encouraged to share their observations and discoveries. Whether we're exploring the characteristics of animals or creating a shelter for a frog, learners will have the opportunity to engage in a hands-on way, making science both educational and enjoyable. Some parental guidance may be needed for this age for hands-on experiments in class and outside of class. There are a few lessons where we build or design in class, and then the experiment is done outside of class, such as testing the effects of sun or charting the weather. Please check the syllabus for more information on specific activities. Any printable PDFs will be posted in the classroom on the Sunday before class. Students can print these PDFs and bring them to class. Alternatively, students may bring a paper and pencil to class to complete the in-class activities. Required materials for the class include basic household supplies, such as tape, glue, markers, craft sticks, cardboard, toy cars, etc. A specific list of items to bring to class will be posted in the classroom posts at least one week before the next lesson. Students will not need to access any apps or websites outside of the Outschool classroom. Everything will be shared on screen through Zoom by the teacher.
学習到達目標
Understand Animal Biology and Ecology: Students will learn about animal structures, adaptations, mimicry, and senses, exploring how these traits help animals survive in their environments.
Explore Fundamental Physical Science Concepts: Students will investigate the principles of energy, motion, heat, light, and sound, understanding how these forces interact and affect the world around them.

レッスン 1:
Plantific! (4-LS1-1)
Students start the lesson by identifying which part of a plant various vegetables represent—roots, stems, leaves, flowers, or fruits. They watch a time-lapse video of a seed's growth, pausing to predict each stage. The class examines a seed pod and investigates how water moves through a plant. Collaboratively, they research and present findings on specific plant structures, discussing their functions and how these structures interconnect within the plant system.

レッスン 2:
Survivors! (4-LS1-1)
The lesson begins with a treehopper's biomimicry image, then shows a video of unique external structures of North American animals. Students link this to prior knowledge and analyze how these structures aid survival. They solve an interactive puzzle, matching animals with their survival-related structures, and discover how specific features like the peacock’s tail support vital behaviors for survival.

レッスン 3:
Survivors! (4-LS1-1)
Students research an animal of their choice and find out how its external structures aid in survival. Students share and extend their learning with others by contributing their information to a group mind map and playing a game of Who Am I? Students extend their knowledge further by considering the benefits of animal camouflage for both defense and attack. Students employ their creativity by using a Thinkers Key to change, add, or enhance the external features of an animal.

レッスン 4:
The Inside Story! (4-LS1-1)
Students look at X-ray images, prompting students to explore internal body structures. Students then feel their pulses and use an interactive infographic to learn about heart and lung functions. They explore animal and plant anatomy through a quiz-style eBook and write evidence on how internal structures support survival. Extensions include analyzing how internal and external structures coordinate and conducting an imaginative interview with an animal known for unique internal structures.
