In this 4 day Stock Market course , students will work together to create and manage a virtual investment portfolio of real world stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Students will be given $100,000 in virtual cash to begin investing / trading stocks. Each student is responsible for researching and evaluating potential investments. Students will make decisions on whether to buy, sell, or hold the stocks, funds, and bonds in the portfolio they have created. Please make sure you check the dates, some class are scheduled consecutive, while some schedule class do not run consecutive, they may have a couple days in between classes. Introduction: Why Should I Invest? Students will learn the basics of investing, differentiating it from saving and trading. They will explore reasons for investing, such as outpacing inflation and building wealth through compounding. The lesson includes an interactive simulation where students make various investment decisions. Technical and Fundamental Analysis of a Stock (Part 1) This lesson focuses on understanding stock performance. Students will learn to read a stock quote, including key elements like the company name, ticker symbols, previous close, open price, bid, ask, day's range, 52-week range, volume, and average volume. They will also explore market vocabulary, historical chart reading, and current events affecting stock prices. Technical and Fundamental Analysis of a Stock (Part 2) Continuing from the previous lesson, students will delve deeper into stock performance analysis. They will learn about market cap, beta, PE ratio, EPS, earnings date, forward dividend & yield, and ex-dividend date. Discussions will cover factors causing stock price changes, market vocabulary, historical chart reading, and current events impacting the stock market. Portfolio Diversification Students will learn the importance of portfolio diversification and understanding risk. The lesson includes evaluating their trading performance, market vocabulary, historical chart reading, and current events affecting stock prices. Students will present their portfolio performance to the class. Stock Market Strategy In the final lesson, students will evaluate their portfolio diversification and trading strategies. They will review market vocabulary, historical chart reading, and current events impacting stock prices. Students will present their overall stock performance and strategic decisions during the game to the class. C L A S S R O O M E N V I R O N M E N T The class is designed to be a stress-free, fun, and interactive learning environment that accommodates different learning styles and abilities. Each lesson includes a mix of discussions, hands-on activities, and presentations to ensure an engaging and comprehensive learning experience. S T U D E N T I N T E R A C T I O N Students will have the opportunity to interact and discuss with other classmates during weekly discussions. Each lesson involves engaging students in classroom discussion questions, and I will discuss these questions during class sessions. P R E R E Q U I S I T E S This is a beginner course, no prior knowledge or experience is needed to join this course. This course is designed to provide students with a foundational understanding of the stock market, practical experience in managing investments, and the ability to make informed financial decisions. NOTE TO PARENTS: Please note the minimum number of students required for this course. If the minimum number of students has not been reached, students may be transferred or refunded. I spent a week with extensive interaction on the NYSE trading floor. My stock market game past participants earned 1st place in the state stock market game simulations with the highest percentage of profits competing against over 1200 teams.
