This course offers an in-depth exploration of Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring, a landmark work that catalyzed the modern environmental movement. Each chapter provides opportunities to analyze literary devices, ethical arguments, and scientific concepts, while connecting the book’s themes to contemporary environmental issues. Topics Covered: Ecological interconnectedness Environmental ethics and conservation History and effects of pesticide use Biodiversity and ecosystem health Advocacy and public policy in environmental science Class Structure: The course is divided into 17 weekly sessions, each dedicated to one chapter of the book. Each week includes: 1. Pre-reading activities to introduce key themes. 2. Instructor-led lectures (15-20 minutes) with slides or video clips. 3. Group discussions to analyze the chapter's content and relevance. 4. Interactive activities such as debates, case studies, or games. 5. Reflections and journaling for students to process their thoughts. Teaching Style: My teaching style is student-centered and highly interactive.
