このクラスで学べること

This is a follow on course. Learners will be ready for this course when they have completed at least one course of my "Let's Start Suzuki Recorder" classes. Alternatively, if learners have been learning Suzuki Recorder with another teacher and can confidently play D, E & F#, they are welcome to join.

If your learner has been learning using a different recorder method please contact me so that I can advise you on the most appropriate course.

In this online 6-week course students will learn up to six more beginner recorder pieces from Suzuki Recorder Volume 1.

These pieces are:
Suo Gan
Daddy Long Legs
One Bird, Variation C
Cuckoo
French Children's Song
The Finch

The Suzuki Method is carefully designed to teach a new technique with each piece. We will start the course by reviewing the pieces learned in "Let's Start Suzuki Recorder" and progress through the Suzuki Repertoire at a comfortable pace for each student.

Week 1
Review of pieces 1-4
In depth study of Suo Gan with a focus on legato articulation.

Week 2
Review of staccato articulation
The note G.
How to play Daddy Long Legs.

Week 3
Review of One Bird, Variation A.
Review of One Bird, Variation B.
The note A.
How to play One Bird, Variation C
How to play Cuckoo

Week 4
Review of legato articuation
Review of Cuckoo.
How to play French Children's Song.

Week 5
Review of Cuckoo
Review of French Children's Song.

Week 6
Review of staccato articulation.
How to play The Finch.

Each class will include a short section of personalised individual tuition. Students are encouraged to proceed at their own pace throughout the duration of the course. It is possible that not every student will be able to master all six pieces by the end of the course. There will be plenty of opportunity for participation in the lesson for all students.

Students are welcome to take a section of this class more than once before moving on to a more advanced class. All children work at their own pace and central to the Suzuki method is the concept of regular review. I am always happy to advise students and learners which is the most appropriate class for them.
学習到達目標
Students will be encouraged to stand in an appropriate stance for recorder playing, use correct hand positioning, and breath control. Students will develop their skills in staccato and legato articulation. They will learn up to six Suzuki volume 1 pieces on the recorder. All pieces will have sung lyrics to assist with learning.

Students are encouraged to play with beautiful intonation and articulation and to listen to the sound they are making.

There will be an opportunity for each student to perform to the rest of the class at the end of each weekly session.
As this is a Suzuki class, students will be learning to play by ear and they will not be reading written notation at this stage.

受講に必要なもの
You will need:

Essential:

Recorder
Please ensure you have a good quality plastic or wooden soprano recorder and not a toy recorder. It is important to have a good quality instrument so that you are able to make a beautiful sound. I recommend the Yamaha YRS 312Biii but many other good quality recorders of approximately £20-£35 ($20-$45) are available. Please contact me if you have questions about a specific model.
You will need to tape over the holes of your recorder with electrical insulation tape. You will be able to access instructions for this upon enrollment.

Repertoire Playlist
Suzuki Recorder Book 1 & 2 (Soprano) CD or digital playlist.
Ideally the playlist, at least the first half of the book, should be listened to daily.

Optional:

Suzuki Book 1 Recorder (Soprano) book

Floor mat
A floor mat is helpful for students to learn play and rest (bowing) positions. I particularly recommend a floor mat for students who do not yet know left and right. You will be able to access instructions for this upon enrollment.
Alternatively, if you do not know left and right, please use a bracelet on the left hand as a reminder or, you can write 'L' and 'R' on the back of your hands.

Thumb rest
I strongly recommend using a thumb rest. It assists hand positioning and is essential for students who continue into Suzuki Recorder Volume 2.
