The new Reading and Writing section of the SAT can be intimidating and stressful for many students. The questions are designed to be difficult, and at times confusing, but don’t despair. With practice and some strategies, you can improve your performance. The Reading and Writing section on the SAT has some quirks, and understanding patterns and strategies can help you deconstruct the answers faster and more accurately.
A SAT redesign starting spring 2024 has meant some significant changes to the Reading and the Writing and Language portions of the test. For example, the entire test is shorter, and the Reading and the Writing and Language portions of the test have been combined into a one section called Reading and Writing .
The changes to the reading comprehension questions are quite significant, and it is imperative that students study the new style of questions. The questions are shorter but require more analysis now, for example. The reading comprehension questions follow several distinct patterns - each requiring their own strategies. We will cover all of these styles throughout the bootcamp.
This class is asynchronous. Each lesson will include video instruction and independent work. The video lessons range from forty five minutes to an hour. Students will be given ten unique lessons related assignments throughout the course. Through these lessons, students will learn the strategies and techniques to tackle the different types of questions in the Reading and Writing section, such as:
Central Ideas: How to identify and summarize the main ideas and themes of the passages
Paired Passages: How to compare and contrast two related passages on the same topic
Evidence Based Questions: How to find and use evidence from the passages to support your answers
Quantitative: How to interpret and analyze data, graphs, and charts in the passages
Inferences: How to make logical and reasonable inferences from the passages
Structure Questions: How to recognize and understand the organization and purpose of the passages
Informational Synthesis: How to evaluate the author’s use of rhetorical devices and persuasive techniques in the passages
Transition Words: How to choose the best transition words and phrases to connect ideas and sentences
Grammar: Understanding the foundations of grammar in order to correctly identify errors
Words in Context: Mastery of vocabulary within the context of the passage. Students will be asked to define or choose the correct word to fit the passage.
There’s a lot to cover, but by the end of this class, you will be ready to ace the reading and writing section of the SAT!
The class schedule is as follows:
Lesson One: Text Based Questions
Lesson Two: Central Ideas and Details
Lesson Three: Transitions
Lesson Four: Text Structure
Lesson Five: Informational Synthesis
Lesson Six: Charts and Graphs
Lesson Seven: Grammar
Lesson Eight: Words in Context
Lesson Nine: Inferences Words in Context
Lesson Ten: Paired Passages and Review

Students will also be given a quizlet (digital flashcards) each week to practice some of the most common vocab words found on the past SAT tests. These quizlets will contain twenty words each. Students will be given a document to review transition words in their categories and a document to review grammar topics found on the test.

Live classes are available as well.

I also offer a class focusing solely on SAT Grammar and Vocabulary and another one on Reading Comprehension. These are live classes. I offer private tutoring as well. Message me for details.
