In this class your child will be taught more advanced phonic skills using the Orton Gillingham multi-sensory approach to learning. Students will learn how to listen for the sound, read it within a word, write it down, and find it within a text. This class is a good fit for students who already know the basic phonic skills such as they letters sounds, vowels, blends, & digraph. Having this background knowledge will help them be successful in learning these higher level phonics skills. The Orton-Gillingham Approach is a proven reading strategy designed to help students with dyslexia or other learning differences be successful readers. This is a perfect class for students who have been identified with dyslexia or who have a difficult time picking up reading. No matter your child's learning challenges they will be welcome with open arms and included in all of our fun! We will play interactive games together to create a positive learning environment. Students will be encouraged to try their best, hug their mistakes, and cheer on their classmates! Below is the learning progression that will be used. Please note that this ongoing class is designed for students either stay for the whole time or jump in or out at any time. Classroom Routine Welcome Supply Check Learning the sounds Sound Practice Play a game to work on the sound Find the sound within a book Closing Level 4 March 6th-10th K vs C Rule March 13th-17th Silent Letters March 20th-24th “ I before e” March 27th-31st Consonant le April 3rd- 7th Consonant le April 10th-14th Syllable Division April 17th- 21st TBA April 24th- 28th May 1st-5th May 8th-12th May 15th- 19th May 22nd- 26th May 29th-31st In every class students will be given a tailored printable worksheet that connects with the skill that is taught. This worksheet will be posted in the classroom 24 hours before the class starts. The following list of supplies will be needed by all students every week. Supply List -Attached Printable (Available 24hrs before the class) -Pencil -Crayons -Whiteboard -Expo Marker

My name is Mrs. Howell, and I am thrilled to embark on this learning journey with you. In our classes, you’ll make new friends, develop important academic skills, and discover how to embrace mistakes as valuable learning opportunities. Best of all, my classes are pet-friendly! Feel free to have your furry friend join in for some cozy learning time.
Teaching Philosophy:
Creating a safe, supportive, and loving learning environment is at the heart of my teaching. I aim to help students feel comfortable expressing themselves and growing as learners. My classes are interactive and engaging, featuring phonics games and collaborative activities that encourage connection and creativity. I specialize in working with students with disabilities, including (but not limited to) Dyslexia, ADHD, Autism, and Apraxia of Speech.

35-Hour Orton-Gillingham Training (Swift School, Roswell, GA)
