Autumn is right around the bend. Harvests, Hay Bales, Pumpkin Spice everything! With that comes HALLOWEEN. Candy, pumpkin carving, dress-up and more. Your American Girl Doll fan will love this Halloween Costume DIY party.

This Not-So-Scary extravaganza begins with introductions. Whether you have a Historical doll, a Truely Me, a Girl of the Year, or another doll entirely, this show and tell time is such a fun way to meet others and see new or different dolls. We also start with a few fall or halloween themed icebreakers. For example, "What's your favorite thing about the fall season?" or "What's the coolest Halloween costume you've ever seen?"

After we introduce ourselves and our dolls, we will brainstorm costume and decoration ideas. In the past, learners have come up with some really fun AND simple designs for DIY fashions. Here are some suggestions for simple costumes:

-a ghost! (white fabric, hole for eyes, black fabric marker for added details.
-a bee (black tshirt and pants with yellow felt stripes glued around. Homemade wings and antenna headband for a final touch.
-a witch (a point black hat, a broom and some magic potions)
-a unicorn (a unicorn headband, with ribbon for added magical flair)
-a mermaid (DIY mermaid tail out of an old pair of leggings and glue)
-a pumpkin (crumpled up orange paper, triangle paper eyes and mouth)

Some party-goers might want to make fall or halloween accessories as well or instead. Please make sure to provide plenty of crafting supplies in order to get the most fun out of this class! See Learner Supply List for a list of specific supply ideas. Please note that each learner makes their own costume using shared ideas and their own creativity. There is no ONE set costume that all students make step by step. I find that this stiffles creativity and requires students to purchase craft supplies that they might not typically use. While we craft, I show a short Halloween American Girl Doll music video, and share fun doll and Autumn and Halloween facts. Learners are encouraged to chat and share their creations as they desire.

During the last 25 minutes of class, we will play BOO! BINGO together. This fun bingo game features images of American Girl Dolls dressed up in costumes and is a fun way to end our time together. Bingo boards are sent to the Learner's Inboxes on Outschool the day before class. Please note that we can only play Bingo if enough learners have their bingo boards printed out.

I am a fun and flexible teacher that really tries to connect with each student. I use google slides to showcase different ideas and fun pretend scenes and scenaries to inspire learner's imaginations. Party-goers have a ton of time to share and chat with each other. No crafting experience is necessary. This class is not scary. I intentionally only showcase gentle and fun Halloween creatures leaving out Zombies, Monsters and other potentially scary characters.

*Please note that learners can bring any doll they wish. The media used in class will feature mostly American Girls Dolls but learners can bring any 15" or 18" doll. In the past, students have brought Our Generation dolls, Glitter Girls, Wellie Wishers, important stuffies, Disney ILY dolls, Barbies, Maplelea dolls and more! This is a truly inclusive party!*

Please help your learner with scissors, sewing machines/needles (if used) and hot glue guns.
受講に必要なもの
Learners should plan to have solid colored 18" doll shirts and pants via Amazon.com or a local doll shop. If you don't wish to purchase this, please provide your learner with a base outfit that can be added to OR altered for their costume.

Here are some supplies that you might consider having available for your learner:
-felt
-adhesive gems
-fabric markers or paint (this can be messy)
-crafting feathers
-pipecleaners (these really come in handy)
-tulle
- 1/4" or 1/2" elastic (to tie tulle to and make a simple skirt)
-cardboard (cereal box cardboard works well as it isn't very thick and thus easy to cut)
-scissors, glue, tape
-ribbon
-paper

A BOO! BINGO board will be sent out prior to class. Please make sure to print it out and have it available for class along with plastic chips or small toys (like Lego bricks) to mark off the spaces.

Hello!

My name is Stephanie and I am so happy to be an educator here on Outschool. I have experience teaching learners of all ages - preschool all the way up through graduate school. My educational background includes bachelor degrees in Art Conservation and Anthropology and a minor in Fine Art. I also have a Master’s Degree in Urban Affairs and Public Policy with a concentration in Historic Preservation. I genuinely love all things material culture, art, history and architecture.

I am also a mom of three children. I love trips to the library, museums, historic sites and parks. I enjoy travel, cold lemonade, reading books, taking walks and shopping locally. My house is filled with lots of love and chaos.

I believe that education should be a dynamic and personalized experience. I view classrooms as places where curiosity is celebrated and where learning is an active, collaborative endeavor. I strive to foster a learning environment where students are encouraged to pursue their passions, ask questions, and think critically. I believe that hands-on learning not only enhances retention but also ignites a genuine enthusiasm for acquiring knowledge. Through open discussions and exploration of topics that resonate with students' interests, I aim to empower them to become lifelong learners who are not just consumers of knowledge but creators of it. Ultimately, I aspire to inspire a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom and into every facet of students' lives.

Come have fun and learn with me!
