このクラスで学べること

Bonjour! Hola! Guten Tag! Konnichiwa!
Hello! I am so glad you are here. Do you love American Girl Dolls and traveling? Then this class is just for you!

Each week our trip starts with introducing or sharing our dolls to the group. This is a great opportunity to practice sharing, taking turns, and listening to others. Also, this is a wonderful time to make new friends, socialize, and chat about your week.

After introductions, we head to our weekly destination. Each week we travel to a new country, if not an entirely different continent than the week before. We travel ALL over the world! We take planes, ships, trains, buses and more. We have been to Antarctica to the McMurdo Research Center, to the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Imperial Palace in Japan. I'm a big fan of interest-based learning and thus I'm always open to suggestions for travel locations if there is a place your learner wants to visit and learn about!

Each class looks like this:
-We start our trip by looking at a map of where we are traveling. Google Earth is an amazing resource and helps us travel to our destination. During this map portion of class, we subtly review map reading skills. What continent do you live on? What continent are we going to? Is it north or south, east or west of where you live?

-Next we grab our suitcases, passports and foreign currency and hop on some form of transportation to get us to our destination. Do we need to fly? Can we drive or take a different type of vehicle?

-Once at our vacation destination, we find a hotel, unpack our bags, recover from jetlag, and then go exploring!

-For the rest of class, we visit well-known tourist destinations like parks, museums, historic sites, famous monuments, restaurants, shops and more. I try to make our visits as realistic as possible using 360 views, photographs, and video clips.

*Please note that although American Girl dolls are featured on each slide, learners are welcome to bring any doll to class. Other favorite dolls include Our Generation Dolls, Barbie, Disney ILY dolls, Wellie Wishers, Glitter Girls, LOL dolls and more.*

I am an upbeat, fun and flexible teacher who encourages positivity in all her classes. Learners don't need to have any specific experience to take this class. All types of learners are welcome. This class is Dyslexia friendly.

I use a number of sources to put together the travel itinerary for this class. First I consult Google Travel and Trip Advisor for locations that look fun. I try to pick an assortment of places to visit including outdoor venues, museums, parks, historic sites, entertainment centers and more. If there is an American Girl Doll that has connections to a particular place, for example Grace Thomas (Paris) or Kira Bailey (Australia), I try to include them in my slides and refer to their stories since it is an American Girl Doll Travel Club. I also use other internet resources for information about our travel destinations. Often I go to the town, city or country website and gather information from there. There are often links to recommended destinations, public programs and historic information. I have used National Geographic for information as well as the Discovery and History Channels. This is not a history class. If speaking about history, it is generally associated with a specific place we are visiting and therefore the information comes from that site. For example, if we visit the Louvre in Paris, I gather information from the Louvre. I make a point of traveling ALL over the world so students see a diversity in ethnicity, language, culture, foods, history and more.

I am a STEM educator who believes that learning can come from all different sources. I enjoy traveling and have a degree in Anthropology. There is so much to learn from cultures around the world. I grew up with American Girl Dolls and think they make great playmates and companions. Children learn best when they are having fun and playing!
