Welcome to the club!

Please note that learners can bring any doll they wish. The media used in class will feature mostly American Girls Dolls but learners can bring any 15" or 18" doll. In the past, students have brought Our Generation dolls, Glitter Girls, Wellie Wishers, important stuffies, Disney ILY dolls, Barbies, Maplelea dolls and more! This is a truly inclusive club.

Each meeting will start with introducing ourselves and our dolls. While many learners return week after week, often students want to share a different doll, a new outfit, or doll accessory. Learners do not have to share. I never want anyone to feel uncomfortable in class! Introductions are a great opportunity to practice public speaking, sharing, taking turns, and listening to others.

After Show and Tell time, we brainstorm different crafts we can create for our dolls based around our weekly theme. The theme changes weekly and includes scenarios like:

- Vet or Medical Doctors
- Coffee Shop
- Baking
- Furniture
- Food
- Beach Trip
- Fall Festival
- Halloween
- Holidays
- Restaurant
-Pets
-Mermaids
-Camping
-Movie Night

During club, students are encouraged to use the art materials they have to make something for their dolls. For example, during a Spa-themed class, learners might want to make tiny bottles of nail polish, a foot bath out of cardboard and cotton balls, or a face mask out of paper for their dolls. During a baking themed class, learners might want to make doll food out of air dry clay or a menu board using cardstock. Each learner decides what they want to work on during club.

*Please note there is no ONE craft that all learners work on step by step during club. I've found this stifles creativity and requires club members to buy crafting supplies they wouldn't use otherwise."

While learners craft, they share their creations, pretend, chat about their week, or share AG fan news. I like to add in educational tidbits around the weekly theme to make class even more enjoyable.

I am a fun and flexible teacher who encourages positivity in all her classes. I listen to and engage all students during class. I use slides with colorful, inviting graphics and scenes to engage learner's imaginations. Slides largely feature American Girl Dolls like Claudie, Corrine, Kira, Joss, Samantha, Melody, Josephina and more. I try to weave in dolls that represent Historical, Truely Me, Girl of the Year, Wellie Wishers, and even Bitty Babies. Learners don't need any doll or art knowledge or experience to participate.

Club themes change weekly and are often suggested by club members themselves!

Hello!

My name is Stephanie and I am so happy to be an educator here on Outschool. I have experience teaching learners of all ages - preschool all the way up through graduate school. My educational background includes bachelor degrees in Art Conservation and Anthropology and a minor in Fine Art. I also have a Master’s Degree in Urban Affairs and Public Policy with a concentration in Historic Preservation. I genuinely love all things material culture, art, history and architecture.

I am also a mom of three children. I love trips to the library, museums, historic sites and parks. I enjoy travel, cold lemonade, reading books, taking walks and shopping locally. My house is filled with lots of love and chaos.

I believe that education should be a dynamic and personalized experience. I view classrooms as places where curiosity is celebrated and where learning is an active, collaborative endeavor. I strive to foster a learning environment where students are encouraged to pursue their passions, ask questions, and think critically. I believe that hands-on learning not only enhances retention but also ignites a genuine enthusiasm for acquiring knowledge. Through open discussions and exploration of topics that resonate with students' interests, I aim to empower them to become lifelong learners who are not just consumers of knowledge but creators of it. Ultimately, I aspire to inspire a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom and into every facet of students' lives.

Come have fun and learn with me!
