Calling all writers - struggling and thriving alike! Do you have a struggling writer who needs support with improving their structure? Or, is your writer thriving and would like an opportunity to continue perfecting their work? Well, this is the class for you! With 1:1 guidance and support from me, this course is designed for writers to learn about and practice going through an entire writing process. Week 1 - Introduction to non-fiction, brainstorming topic ideas, and research collection strategies. Week 2 - Choosing a topic & planning, and continuing to research using reliable sources. Week 3 - Developing structure, and drafting the introduction. Week 4 - Drafting body paragraphs and learning about strategies to improve writing. Week 5 - Drafting body paragraphs and learning about strategies to improve writing continued. Week 6 - Drafting the conclusion. Week 7 - Editing & revising. Week 8 - Celebrating. All of these lessons will be on a Google Slides and each student will receive their own copy. This way, they can follow along, have their own working space, and go back to previous lessons as needed. The class structure will be similar each class. First, I will teach and model about the topic at hand. Then, learners will work on the assignment of the day (see above). At the end of each class, students will have the opportunity to share any questions with me and prior to the end of each week, I will review their work and offer suggestions and advice. During the editing and revising stages, students will share their work with another classmate and the classmate will offer suggestions and revision ideas. At the very end of our 6 weeks, we will hold a virtual writing celebration where students will share their work and celebrate their success by commenting on other's writing pieces via Google Docs. Students will interact with each other and myself via Google docs. They will also share a link to their assignment to provide feedback. Students will comment on each other's work. Lastly, they will participate in weekly interactive games as warm ups. These games include: Would You Rather, I Have Who Has and more! These are all virtual and will occur in the Outschool Classroom Discussion board. At the very end of our 8 weeks, we will hold a writing celebration where students will share their work and celebrate their success! Whenever I teach, I work to ensure that my lessons are engaging, clear, concise, thorough and fun! I believe that students learn best when they feel comfortable with a teacher and are enjoying themselves. I will be teaching with the expectation that students have experience with developing sentences (approx. ages 8-12).
学習到達目標
Students will improve their writing by going through the writing process and writing their own nonfiction book report about a chosen nonfiction topic. In addition to that, students will learn about specific beneficial writing strategies to make their work more engaging to read. Specifically, the following skills/topics will be covered, taught, and practiced: all about nonfiction fiction, brainstorming, topic development, planning, researching, finding and using reliable sources, structure, engaging beginnings, drafting, including nonfiction text features, including more detail, including transitional words, editing, and revising.

Welcome! My name is Mrs. G and I am SO excited for the opportunity to work with children around the world through Outschool. I have a strong passion for giving children the best education possible and to make learning FUN! Ever since I began teaching, I feel incredibly fulfilled and I wake up excited every morning to go to school, NOT work. Teaching has never felt like a job to me, but a lifestyle; something that is just a part of who I am.
Through the platform of Outschool, I look forward to putting my own creativity to use and design fun, educational experiences. As of now, I am going to be teaching through the creative avenue of "escape rooms". Students will enter the fictional world of the STAR Students (Sophie, Trey, Anthony, and Rosa) of Galaxy Elementary School. These four students need the help of Outschool students to solve various mysteries that will be uncovered through clues. The only way to receive clues is by solving math problems and/or answering ELA questions. Outschool students will join the STAR students on an educational adventure during each one of my classes!!
I also have a strong passion for writing and specifically, supporting students by teaching strategies to help improve their writing. I love helping developing authors find their voice, creativity, and passion for writing!
A little bit about my professional background: I have experience as a third grade teacher of students with an IEP, Gifted and Talented students, and everyone in between. That being said, I am comfortable teaching a wide variety of grades and ages. While teaching, I served as my school's literacy and technology coach. This means I supported my colleagues as an instructional coach by providing professional development, coming into their classrooms to help their instruction, and opening my classroom doors for observation.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Psychology, a minor in Early Childhood Education and a certificate in Leadership. In 2020, I also obtained a Master's degree in Educational Leadership with a supervisor and principal certificate.
In September, I gave birth to a baby girl! I am currently on maternity leave but I miss teaching so much that I am excited to have the opportunity to teach online!
