Join us for a fun and challenging book club where we meet every week to discuss our book. I will lead a round-table discussion for each book we read, and every student in the class will have an opportunity to share their opinion with their peers. I will be fostering a love for books, and students in the class will be asked to think about what they read, form an opinion on what they read, and then share that opinion with others. We will also have fun rating each book we read and comparing them to past reads.

Over the course of eight weeks, students will read and discuss various Newbery Honor books. The books for this book club are well written and thought-provoking leading to many spirited discussions among the students. I have chosen these books to get kids excited and engaged with the writing, making them want to share their thoughts with others.

Book clubs in middle school are a great way to teach students to form and share opinions with others which is an important skill to have as they get older. I run all book clubs so every student is able to answer questions that I pose and participate in the lively discussion. I am also aware that some students prefer to participate through chat than on a microphone. This is completely acceptable. My goal for the students is to get them to share their thoughts however they feel comfortable doing that.

I have been homeschooling my own children for over 15 years. My favorite part of homeschooling has been sharing good literature with my kids and with other homeschooled students in various book clubs I have run over the years. I hope that my enthusiasm for good books rubs off on my students and they take that love with them throughout their lives.
