米国の学年 2 - 5
This is an art project that uses science, instincts and experimentation to get it right. There is no wrong way to do this tile art. Students will create patterns and make predictions. What colors will we make as we blend. What techniques create the greatest effect? We honor the science by taking our time and looking at the changes in the ink, why they are changing, the forms, and we pay special attention to what we are doing and where we are doing it to get the result we want.

We also check in with our emotions. When we see something amazing happen, we report on it and pause to feel what amazing looks like and feels like. As artists and scientists, we keep on experimenting and feeling and looking until it is just right.

We will finish one or two tiles completely. Ms. Leslie will show students different techniques. When we log off at the 45 minute mark, students can continue to experiment. If you read the reviews, you might buy a bunch of tiles. Once kids get the technique, they will continue to experiment!
I have been an artist my whole life. I love to experiment with different mediums. I am a Kindness and Confidence Coach, so every lesson I teach will be filled with manners, care and positive messages.
1. 4 white GLAZED ceramic tiles*
2. Paper towels
3. Sharpies / Permanent Ink Markers (Vibrant complimentary colors) **
4. 90%-99% isopropyl alcohol (70% will work. The higher the percentage, the better.)
5. A dropper (Can be found at drug stores, Dollar Stores or craft stores)
6. Piece of cardboard or cookie sheet - something to put under the tiles to catch drips

Optional:
A Straw
A little Spray bottle
An Old toothbrush

*I bought coasters on Amazon (see below), but I also went to Home Depot to buy my ceramic tiles. You can find them at any home improvement store. They cost approximately .70 each. IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE THEY ARE GLAZED (vs unglazed) TILES (Look for a sheen or ask if they are glazed.)

If you want to make coasters: On Amazon: Westchester has 12 coaster size tiles, 4.25x4.25"or 6 trivet sizes for $19.99-$21.99. Any company will work as long as they are GLAZED tiles. I am not endorsing this product or company in any way. I used their tiles.)

AFTER CLASS:
If you want to seal the tiles after class, there are many ways to do so. Google how to seal painted tiles. My suggestion is below, but you can use any brand of clear acrylic coating.

Krylon UV resistant Clear Acrylic coating - Best spray IMO. Shake for a full minute before using! (2-3 coats if you are making into coasters. 1-2 coats if you are giving as an art tile)

If you want to turn sealed tiles into coasters, after sealing:
Attach Adhesive-backed cork or attach a piece of felt with a strong glue

Final Note: My Mom and I made these awesome tiles together years ago. We didn't seal them. We put them in our kitchens (leaned them up against the counter and wall). Every time I see them, I smile. You need to use a sealer IF you are using them as coasters, but if you are just making a simple art piece, you don't have to seal them. :)

** Important: No Black, gold, silver or glittery Sharpies for this project (different ink molecules)

LAST NOTE:
If your student takes this class more than once, we can use paints and little cups (using fluid paint) to make other beautiful Art on a Tile gifts in addition to our Sharpie/Isopropyl Alcohol project.

Sharpies and isopropyl alcohol will be used in this project. Please set your learner up in a well ventilated area. Student should be able to use an alcohol dropper and/or an optional spray bottle without spilling and work with a responsible parent or caregiver to clean up and dispose of any items that have touched isopropyl alcohol. If needed, parent should be available to assist and/or supervise.

Before class, please practice using a spray bottle and a dropper if your learner is unfamiliar with how to spray lightly and how to make multiple small drops from a dropper.

P.S. 90-99% isopropyl alcohol works best, but 70% works just fine as well!
