This moot court experience will allow learners to apply their knowledge of the Supreme Court landmark cases to a fictitious case. Learners will work on teams of either lawyers or Supreme Court justices to try a case involving Constitutional issues that must be resolved by the Court. Learners will be provided the facts of the case as well as the relevant case law and precedent cases which have come before the Supreme Court on the issue previously. Learners will gain a better understanding of the issues and variables engaged in decision making within the United States Legal System, the complexity of thought and consideration surrounding the application of the United States Constitution and the challenges of lawyers and justices in their loyalty to their respective roles within the United States Justice system. Learners will leave with greater knowledge of the substantive law as well as a greater understanding of legal reasoning in determining case outcomes.
I am a human rights lawyer who has practiced law for over a decade. I am also a law professor who was a participant in moot courts as a student and has been a judge in international moot court competitions for the past 8 years.
