Each week students will be evaluating a logical fallacy found in the media, online, in a commercial or advertisement. Students will be encouraged to find logical fallacies to bring to class for discussion as well. After a brief welcome and introduction, we will play a game of "name that logical fallacy". Following that I will introduce and then give examples of the logical fallacies of the week and show some video clips or graphics from major media networks for students to evaluate. Students will be encouraged to give examples from real life arguments using these fallacies and why they are illogical. How to develop a premise and how those relate to conclusions will be developed and we will also practice basic debate skills. This class is ongoing and has developed to continue working with symbolic logic and diagramming arguments.

Students will learn that logical fallacies are common errors in reasoning that will undermine the logic of your argument. Fallacies can be either illegitimate arguments or irrelevant points, and are often identified because they lack evidence that supports their claim. Students will examine classical fallacies including: classification, systematic, linguistic, formal, informal, measurement, and others.
