1] Students will learn about the changing status of women in traditional African societies compared with changes in the status of black women in the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
2] Students will understand the involvement and the contributions of Black Women in the development of historical social, intellectual, and economic institutions in Africa and the African Diaspora.
3]Particular issues concerning “the Black Woman” that have redefined her position in society as an African woman and her contributions to civilization and society such as slavery, racial discrimination, employment, continuity of the family, and education will be studied in relation to the overall black experience from a “diverse” perspective with “multiple views”. 

My name is Ms. Remi. I am a Yoruba-speaking teacher originally from the former "Great Oyo Empire" in the South Western part of what is now Nigeria in West Africa.  I have an MA in African Studies. I am a Social Studies Substitute Teacher in the NYC Public School system teaching students from 5th grade to Jnr. High School. I am also an adjunct instructor in African History / Civilizations, World History, and Cultural Diversity courses at the City University of New York [CUNY].  I have experience teaching children of all ages. I was a part-time group family daycare and an afterschool teacher assistant for over 20 years.

The teacher will provide all resources necessary for learning in this class to the learners by attaching templates to the class resource page for learners. Youtube videos and Google slides will be used through screen share only by the teacher only - no separate learner account is required.
