My Black History Month Scrapbook: Stories of African American History  is an 50 minute storytime centered around a theme word that I will highlight using my "scrapbook" (google slide show) through stories, pictures and sound! I'm a Griot (African Storyteller who passes the history of their people orally).  Learners will gain the understanding of discovering their own family history as well as stories of African Americans throughout history that have exhibited the theme word.

My Black History Month Scrapbook: Stories of African American History begins with an introduction by Stokes explaining what a Griot is and the importance of learning our family history and passing those stories on traditionally.  

Next the storytelling begins! I will introduce a theme word that will be the focus of the class. I will explain the meaning of the word followed by stories from African American history to highlight real world examples of the word. (The four total sessions will showcase the words Purpose, Self-Determination, Forgiveness, and Perseverance.) Blending 2-3 stories from history with, song, poetry and music and my "digital scrapbook" the session will be an interactive lesson that learners will find engagening the entire performance. 

The session will be concluded with a brief Q & A period.  Each will learner will be sent a PDF file of my "scrapbook" that they can review after the session to further enhance their learning of African American history. The PDF will also them with "Stokes's Guide to Discovering Your Family Tree."
