このクラスで学べること

英語レベル - 不明
米国の学年 Preschool - 1
Beginner レベル向け
In this class, we will learn to draw very simple versions of animals based on shapes. I have two young children, and I Love to teach them art!

As we draw these cute creatures, I will be sharing interesting facts about the animals. For example? Did you know that hedgehogs are immune to viper snake venom, or that a squirrels teeth can grow 6 inches every year, or that the great horned owl can’t smell skunk spray? Cool eh? Animals are so much fun.

When I teach, I like to draw with my learners. This allows me to demonstrate what we are learning that day. This particular class is a step-by-step class. I will draw each step with the learner, and wait until most learners are complete a step before moving onto the next step.

I keep my classes on mute, so that learners can focus on their artwork and also hear what I’m saying. I do, however, encourage learners to unmute when they need help, or to unmute when I call on them to answer a fun question. For this reason, learners must be able to mutant unmute themselves independently. At this age, I know that can be a challenge, so I recommend that parents/guardians stay within earshot.

Every week learners will need to have a pencil, an eraser, and ideally a black felt tipped pen for outlines. Colour is optional. If time permits, we may add colour using coloured pencil at the end of class. Some drawings are more complicated than others, and there will not always be time for a color.

Here is the breakdown of what we will draw and learn about every week.

I love to teach art, and specialize in drawing (wide variety of styles and techniques), procreate, watercolour, and acrylic painting. When I teach, I like to lead by example. This means that I draw, paint and create with my students. Throughout class I make myself available for questions, assistance and feedback.

I’ve been teaching art for over 5 years, and I have been creating art professionally since 2011. I have illustrated marketing materials for Denny’s, Newman’s Own, Duane Reade, Discovery Children’s Museum, The Mendes Foundation and other clients.

I also have extensive experience in advertising. I’ve been working as an art director (now creative director) for over 17 years. I worked in New York City for 10 years, Cambodia for one, and I currently work remotely out of my home office in Canada. In my advertising career I've made TV commercials, print campaigns, radio spots, online ads, videos and billboards (even some in Time Square.) I love thinking of cool ideas and bringing them to life. I am excited to share this skill with my students.

I believe that art is more than an applicable workplace skill. Art is a form of healthy self-expression and personal reflection. I also believe that art teaches the importance of patience and persistence. It is an education for the mind and soul.

For me, art is meditative. I own dozens of sketchbooks filled with drawings I’ve done throughout the years. Many pages contains a memory, emotion, thought or experience. As a mother, I find additional inspiration through my daughter and new son.

Art is everywhere, if you look for it. Children especially have a gift for finding beauty in the world. I hope to harness this gift so every child in my class can find their own unique, artistic voice.
