Let's get creative this summer! Together we'll make mini-magazines called ZINES. I'll use mini-lessons to help kids learn and practice creative writing in class. We'll experiment with poetry and prose. Students will have time to write and craft their zines in class but may want to spend time working on them outside of class. Topics and Class Structure- Day 1- Welcome Activities What is a Zine? Brainstorming- What Will My Zine Be About? Fast writing to find ideas Create a Cover Day 2- Ways to Organize a Zine Using Imagery and Figurative Language Poetry Forms Create 1-2 pages Day 3- Creating comics Word Art and collage Maps and Word Games Create 2-3 pages Day 4- Short nonfiction Memories Things we want to remember Create 2-3 pages Day 5- About the Author Table of Contents and page numbers Sharing and Celebration Teaching Style- I believe in student-centered learning and the importance of structure in a classroom. I set classroom agreements to help create a safe, fun, inspiring space for all students to feel supported, want to participate, and learn. I encourage participation but do not force it. I use materials to help students connect and find interest. Interaction- I encourage participation throughout the class through both the chat and verbal. I make sure to answer all questions and call on all students who wish to participate. Students will interact with each other through discussion and when sharing their writing. Prior Experience- Students do not need prior knowledge or experience with creative writing to learn and/or enjoy this class.
学習到達目標
Students will create a one-of-a-kind personal zine.

Nearpod- I use Nearpod (a free website) in all of my classes to provide interactive ways for students to engage in the material. My lessons may include educational YouTube videos in the Nearpod lesson. Students can only see and engage with the videos and materials I choose. I guide them through the lesson. Nearpod also allows students to annotate the texts we're reading, listen to the text if they are auditory learners, and interact with each other through a collaborative board. These activities are only available during class and while I am on-site with them.

I received my Secondary English teaching license in 2004. Since then, I have taught in public schools, private schools, and online. I currently teach ELL, ELA, and creative writing to students ages 4-84. My teaching style is encouraging and creative. I want my students to learn how they learn best, to feel supported, and for reading and writing to be enjoyable.
