It’s Christmas time! Help Santa prepare for Christmas! In each Christmas themed lesson, students will do a STEM challenge. They will follow the six step Engineering Design Process: Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Experiment, and Improve. Students plan, design, and execute their own ideas. After they have completed their activity and tested their creation, there is time for reflection on what worked and what didn't.

There are materials that will be needed for each lesson in order for your child to be successful and able to complete the STEM challenge. Those are listed below and will be reminded of during the class. Most items are basic household materials. Also, your child will need a working space and the camera will need to be angled so that it can be seen.

No prior knowledge with STEM is required. Join us as we put our minds to the test in order to save Christmas!

Lesson 1: There is nowhere to put Santa’s milk and cookies. Students will build a table for Santa’s treats, test the strength of their table, and write about the results. Materials needed: 12 straws, 6 popsicle sticks, 1 piece of construction paper, tape roll, scissors, glue, 10 sheets of paper, 10 index cards, 1 can of food

Lesson 2: Oh no, the chimney is too small for Santa to fit through. Students will build Santa a slide so that he can safely get the toys to the bottom of the tree. They will test the height of the slide and how well the gifts travel to the bottom. Materials needed: paper towel rolls, toilet paper rolls, plastic straws, masking tape, 1 paper bowl, aluminum foil, scissors

Lesson 3: Someone doesn’t have a Christmas tree. Students will build a tall Christmas tree and test the height of their tree. Materials needed: toothpicks, gumdrops

Lesson 4: Santa has to launch gifts far away. Students will create a Christmas Present Catapult to help Santa. Students will test how far their gift travels. Materials needed: popsicle craft sticks, rubber bands, spoon

Lesson 5: Students will design Santa’s Sleigh and test the strength of the sleigh. Materials Needed: empty egg carton, scissors, glue stick, masking tape, popsicle stick, candy canes, a figure to represent Santa (I.e. a lego man)

教師の専門知識と資格
Hello, my name is Cheyenne. I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, with an emphasis in Reading for grades K-12. I have been a teacher for over 6 years. I have taught grades 1-3, Gifted and Talented, and ESL. I am passionate about teaching and learning and I can’t wait to share my passions with your child!

I offer mainly Reading, STEM/ STEAM/ STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Math), and PBL (Project- Based Learning) classes. I take a cross-curricular approach to teaching so that students can see how all subjects are related to one another. I am also more of a facilitator in the classroom. I believe that students learn best by doing. They need hands-on experiences to think critically and find a deeper meaning in their learning. Students should have many opportunities to work with their peers and learn from them as well. I provide resources, monitor progress, and encourage children to problem-solve. I like for children to think “outside the box”, be actively involved in their learning, think for themselves, and apply their learning to real-life situations. In our classes, we will take risks, create, evaluate, and embrace mistakes as learning opportunities! We will have a lot of fun together!

I enjoy cooking, baking, doing make-up tutorials, writing, and talking/learning about animals, Disney, and Harry Potter. I would like to teach courses on these topics in the future! I have two kids. My son is 2 years old and my step-daughter is 7 years old. I love spending time with my family, being outdoors, and traveling.
