このクラスで学べること
This class is scheduled by request only. If you are interested, please message me so we can find a time that works for both of us. Thank you! This class is designed for two or more friends siblings to learn how to play chess together. It is fine if they are not starting at exactly the same amount of knowledge (it is rare for any two chess players to be evenly matched), but keep in mind that I will accommodate the lessons to benefit the lesser-skilled player. For example, if one child doesn't know how the pieces move, and the other does, we'll still start with learning how the pieces move. The good news is that I teach using really fun minigames. So even the more advanced child will have lots of fun playing games every single lesson with their partner that they can practice throughout the week. These games not only practice the mechanics of how the pieces move and capture, but also skills such as thinking ahead, and avoiding capture. If your children are brand new to chess, here is an example of how our first lessons could look. We don't move on until each topic is mastered: Lesson 1: Introduce Pawns and the board Lesson 2: Practice playing a game with just pawns Lesson 3: Introduce Bishops and Rooks Lesson 4: Practice Playing a game with pawns, bishops & rooks Lesson 5: Introduce Knights Lesson 6: Practice Playing a game with pawns, bishops, rooks & knights Lesson 7: Introduce the Queen Lesson 8: Practice Playing a game with all pieces but the king Lesson 9: Introduce the King, Castling, Swapping Pawns, Check, Check-Mate Lesson 10-12 and all future lessons, practice playing real chess and build on strategy! If your children are not brand new, I'll play a game with them to assess where they need the most help, and we'll work on the areas they need improvement, while reinforcing their strong points. **Please note, that we use Google slides in this class, and the learners will need to be able to drag images on a Google slides presentation. This does not work well on an iPad or touchscreen tablet. They can use a mouse, trackpad, or keyboard to move the pieces. Please let me know if you have any questions about that. **Also, it is Outschool's policy that every child in class is enrolled. If your children would like to sign in on the same device, that is perfectly fine as long as they are individually enrolled in the class. It is also Outschool's policy to automatically unenroll students that miss 3 ongoing classes in a row. For this reason, I would recommend alternating which account you log in under each week to make sure that doesn't happen. Please let me know if you have questions about this as well!

Hi everyone! I have a passion for learning and teaching that I can't wait to share with you! I am a certified K-8 teacher with a degree from ASU and experience teaching and tutoring preschool-sixth grade. My specialties are math and reading interventions. I also love playing chess, and started a chess club in the last school I worked in. I have so much fun sharing these same methods with my Outschool students. My philosophy is that learning should be FUN! I want my students to have as much enthusiasm as I do about what I'm teaching. Something interesting about me is that I play (and have taught) violin, and I am a big F1 Racing fan!
