このクラスで学べること
This class is for students in grades 1-5 who want to learn life-long skills by playing Chess. Chess will enhance reading and math skills and improve critical thinking abilities. Chess provides long-term skills for children to think and plan strategically. Children will learn essential chess play, structure, and function of the pieces. I have fine-tuned my chess teaching method to construct an easy way for kids to learn how to play the game. Lessons will include 1. Critical thinking skills 2. Many uses of Chess. 3. Rules and information about playing Chess. 4. Demonstration of the game. 5. Begin play of the game 3 Week Course Structure of the course: Week One: Chess basics, piece introductions (point value system), and set up of the board. Week Two: Review pieces (Pawn, Rook, Bishop, Queen, Knight, and King). Introduce check and checkmate—practice chess play. Week Three: Beginning chess tactics and parts of the game.

This is my 23rd year as an elementary teacher and course instructor. In addition, I teach various elective and chess courses for children at a local university. Over the years, I presented at several international conferences and local seminars. I hold a B.S. in Elementary Education and a Master's of Library Science degree. In 2011, I obtained my principal certification.
Chess Instruction:
Chess coach for 21 years.
Studied under a master chess player.
I have taught thousands of students and teachers chess basics via online and face to face classes. I will bring my knowledge and love of the game to each class. Your child will become a better chess player by Week 4.
Your child will be able to play a simple chess game week 3.
