このクラスで学べること
Each week in this ongoing class, we will discuss two episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, watched in order (see the calendar below). However, students may join in class at any point, as the weekly discussions are not cumulative. Episode viewings will take place outside of class time. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is available for purchase or rental on popular digital platforms and can be streamed on Hulu. It may even be available for free checkout at your local library. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is rated 13+. While there isn't any excessive gore, there is fantasy and non-fantasy violence; martial arts-style fight scenes; death; sexual innuendo; blood; and some bad language. Students will be provided with an optional graphic organizer to complete and take notes on during their viewing. Students will reflect, analyze, structure arguments to defend and debate viewpoints, discuss issues, record information and observations, and make assumptions about our weekly viewing. We will also spend considerable time discussing the literary and pop culture references made in the films, as well as the impact Buffy has had on pop culture. Short video clips may be utilized to emphasize certain points.
学習到達目標
Students will learn how to refine and hone their analytical and critical thinking skills; create a skillset of critical thought that will be applicable to multiple disciplines; and identify and discuss the literary and pop culture references in Buffy the Vampire Slayers.
