Roz has returned in Peter Brown's book "The Wild Robot Escapes", the sequel to "The Wild Robot"! Each class, students will listen to the teacher read about Roz the robot's incredible journey, and students will also have opportunities to read as well. This wonderful novel will explore many interesting themes including; friendship, family, self-discovery, nature vs. technology, conservation, civilization, belonging and the importance of home. The novel is written in short and engaging chapters that capture the imagination and wonder of readers. Please Note: It is possible to enjoy this novel without having read the first novel. It can be read independent of the first novel. In order to get the most out of these classes and this wonderful book, there will be 6 classes (6 classes - 2 classes a week, over the course of 3 weeks). The teacher will read designated chapters from the novel and students will participate in guided discussions. After the discussions, there will be a video included to further explore a topic from the readings. The majority of the videos will be nature and STEM related, and encourage readers to think beyond the text. After the final class is completed, students will get a personalized certificate to celebrate their learning from the book club class. The following is the schedule for each class (please note - the schedule is flexible as I like to ensure students have the opportunity to read if they like, and also focus on book topics that are interesting to them): Class 1 -Read Aloud: Chapters 1-15 -Guided Class Discussion (based on readings from class) -Video: "A Day in the Life of a Dairy Farmer" - NJ Spotlight News -Discussion of video and connections to novel Class 2 -Read Aloud: Chapters 16-31 -Guided Class Discussion (based on readings from class) -Video: "What Are Pollinators" - PUExtension -Discussion of video and connections to novel Class 3 -Read Aloud: Chapters 32-46 -Guided Class Discussion (based on readings from class) -Video: "Bird Migration: Doing It For Food! | Science Trek" - Science Trek -Discussion of video and connections to novel Class 4 -Read Aloud: Chapters 47-61 -Guided Class Discussion (based on readings from class) -Video: "The incredible ibex defies gravity and climbs a dam | Forces of Nature with Brian Cox - BBC" - BBC -Discussion of video and connections to novel Class 5 -Read Aloud: Chapters 62-76 -Guided Class Discussion (based on readings from class) -Video: "Blue Whales 101 | Nat Geo Wild" - Nat Geo WILD -Discussion of video and connections to novel Class 6 -Read Aloud: Chapters 77-Epilogue -Guided Class Discussion (based on readings from class) -Author's Note: "A Note About The Story" -Video: "Peter Brown on his Writing Process" - NIU STEAM -Discussion of video and final discussions about novel *There is no requirement to purchase the book, as the book will be provided virtually during class and all activities and discussions will occur during class time. Hello Everyone!
My name is Ms. Simon and I am a certified teacher in Ontario! I completed my Bachelor of Education Degree (for teaching), and my Undergraduate Degree in English & Psychology. I am also currently working on my Masters of Education. I currently work for a school board as a supply teacher.
I love teaching students of all ages about wildlife and nature, and I have experience working as an outdoor and wildlife educator. I also love teaching students reading and writing skills. I have a passion for music and the arts, and play piano, guitar, and sing.
I believe that education should be engaging, interesting, and hands-on. I have worked with a variety of students with various needs and backgrounds, and I find that experiential learning is the best way for children of all ages to learn. At the end of the day, learning should be fun!
As a fun fact about myself, I have two pet rabbits named Cookie and Waffles. They are both very sweet and have been wonderful companions for multiple years.
I look forward to learning with you! :)
