This class will discuss of the first ten amendments to the bill of rights, plus the fourteenth amendment. We will explore the language of each amendment and the rights that they give you. The class will explore the different interpretation styles, such as textualism, original meaning, and judicial interpretation. Textualism is a mode of interpretation that focuses on the plain meaning of the text of a legal document while originalist approaches consider the meaning of the Constitution as understood by at least some segment of the populace at the time of the Founding This will include a discussion on how the judiciary has shaped those rights through the years. We will look at how the States interpret those rights differently, as well as, how the State and Federal powers interact with each other.
