This class really benefits students best when there is a lot of classroom participation. Please help your learner to: 1. Submit a photo of their work weekly, by Friday if possible. 2. Via a video or written comments, provide an explanation of their work or process. 3. View other's pictures and write comments/kind reactions for learners to see. 4. Respond to other learner's comments and feedback about their own work. 5. On Wednesdays, check for and respond to weekly teacher questions/prompts and read and respond to other learners responses. 6. Do weekly scavenger hunts to find reference images for their classmates. 7. My Flex classes are very interactive, particularly because students are free to schedule solo or group meeting with me to chat with others or see a live demonstration if they require more assistance.この文章は自動翻訳されています

In a Flex class, there are NO LIVE MEETINGS. This means your child will receive pre-recorded video lessons they can watch at their own pace on whatever schedule works best! Each video lesson will utilize a top view camera to show up close each step in detail. HOW IT WORKS: On Mondays, I will post the week's video in the classroom and it will be available for the duration of the Flex session. Students may work on their drawings using this recording as their schedule allows! On Wednesdays, students will also be given a question or prompt to respond to in the classroom so all of our learners can get to know each other and find some common interests. An example would be, "When did you first become interested in art?" Or "What is your favorite thing to paint or material to use and why?" By Friday, students are to submit photos and/or video of their work including any explanations they would like to add about their work or process via comments in the classroom or a video explanation. I will give detailed individual feedback to each post. I LOVE seeing student work and look forward to seeing each student's individual style shine through in their drawings! Students are to view other student submissions throughout the week to see how each learner worked to complete their pictures and post questions or comments in the classroom for our community of learners to see and respond to. I will model ways to offer constructive criticism and kind compliments so students learn appropriate ways to discuss other's artwork. More information may be found in the Homework Section. PEER INTERACTION: Each week, students are to engage in a fun scavenger hunt for images similar to what we are drawing. These images can be other artist's renderings or photos of the actual dinosaurs. They should post theses images to the classroom for others to use as reference material for that week’s drawing. CLASS DETAILS AND SUPPLIES Each video tutorial will be approximately 20-30 minutes long, some week’s are broken up into Video 1: The Drawing Video 2: Shading. As with all of my classes, if the student's art work takes a different turn, I fully encourage them to go with it and see where it leads! Creativity and the art process is always more important than the product! All drawings will be demonstrated via a top view camera using artist pencils and white drawing paper. Students are free to add any materials they wish to enhance their drawings. Some options include charcoal, colored pencils, marker, watercolor. PROJECT LIST Week 1: Stegosaurus Week 2: Pteranodon Week 3: Triceratops Week 4: Tyrannosaurus Rex

Hello Outschool community!
I am April Taylor. I live with my amazing family in New York and I have been teaching visual arts on Outschool for 3+ years. I’ve been told I was “born to teach”. On Outschool, I teach art classes for children ages 8 and older. I I have classes in acrylic and watercolor painting, realistic drawing, and clay work. I hold a Bachelors degree in Art Education and a Masters degree in Professional Studies, where I focused on Humanistic and Multicultural Educational practices. I have 18+ years teaching experience in Prek-8 in virtual and in person settings.
As a teacher, I like to keep class fun, upbeat, and flexible. During classes, I encourage balance, in terms of focus and discussion/communicating with myself and classmates. Interaction, open discussion about planning, and ideas/suggestions for their own or other's art is highly valuable, as is, quiet focus and concentration. In every class, I teach using a step by step approach to demonstrate how to do the skills and use the materials. I feel this provides a solid foundation for students to master skills and then put them to practice once they become more confident and independent. I also encourage creativity and encourage students to add or omit elements from their work that make it unique to them. I would much rather have 8 different drawings at the end, than exact replicas of mine! If a child wants to take their project in a different direction, I fully support and encourage them to do so!
When I am not painting and working with clay, I love being out in nature, spending time with my husband, two hockey loving boys, and our dog child.
I look forward to meeting your child and helping them grow their love for art and learning. I hope to see your child in my classes soon!
