In Lesson 1, students will be introduced to the world of "architectural design". We will discuss what “architecture” is. Then, we will explore the most fundamental "point" of design as a place in space and geometrically as the end of a line segment. After a demonstration of the project, students will work in class to create their "point" structures. Point structures will be made of mini marshmallows and toothpicks. Students may share their work with their peers at the end of class...
Students will learn how to use points to make connections. Students will learn the strongest shape and how to build with it. Students will be inspired to continue creating after class is over. (You will end up with as many toothpick marshmallow creations as they have supplies available:).
Although this course is new to Outschool, I have been teaching this course to thousands of students from around the world since 2009. I am excited to offer this course to Outschool students!
